Ford SB Production Block Capability

So many people say the production block is capable to handle between 450 to 500 HP but is this a fact of a myth, and what can go wrong beyond that 500 HP rating?

If it's the main bearing caps, you can always use a billet steel main caps girdle to beef up the bottom end. or is there any other limitations..?

I get so jealous when I read that a small 6 banger Toyota Supra motor can handle 800 HP easy!

Are we talking a production 5 liter roller block? I've seen over 500hp many times with them. Hell, I've owned a few. A friend of mine is making 555hp at the wheels with a stock 93 short block. Eventually the block will fail at that horsepower level and the failure rate dramatically increases with rpm. Main caps aren't the issue. The issue is thin cylinder walls and week main webbing. A main girdle will hold the crank in when the block splits but that is about it. A steel main girdle might help with cap walk but will not prevent the block from splitting. There is nothing you can do to a production block to make it live at anything over 500hp. All you can do is pray.

Yes, I meant the production short roller block and that's all what I needed to know. Thank you so much indeed!
