Anyone Know Production Numbers For T-Top Mustangs?

How many T-Top mustangs have been produced in total?
How many 1988 Mustang GT 5spds?
I've been looking everywhere for these numbers, so thanks in advance!

There were 18,174 GT convertibles in 88 and my guess is about 10-15% of those are T top so at most there were 2200 of them made in 88 since they stopped the production of them half way through the year.

How can 10-15% of all convertables made that year have T_tops?

The T top production numbers were just put into the covertible count. There weren't a whole lot of them made in 1988, cause they stopped production of them before the end of the year.

T-top models were code "D" mustangs in the build code and specified in the coupe count:

Production numbers for T-top Mustangs (cars that carried the production code D, which stands for removable T-tops) seem to be as elusive as the actual coupes. Even the folks at Ford were stymied by our query about the total number of Fox cars with the funky roof that were built. Only 2,825 '86 Mustang coupes were produced between September 10 and 26, 1985, so the number of T-top cars derived from that run--especially those with 5.0s--must be incredibly small. Based on the VIN decoding we were able to do, it appears our project ride rolled off the assembly line at Ford with a 5.0/T5 drivetrain combination back in late 1985. A factory '86, 5.0, T-top car with a trunk--oh, happy day!

The tops didn't do well in a water test. We'll no doubt be addressing that problem before this ride hits the road.
It took only a little research time on the Internet for us to find this information about our T-top Mustang and others we sensed are out there (we used www.carfax.com, www.google.com, www.foureyedpride.com, and a cool links page called Trevor's T-top Coupe Gallery, www. hometown.aol.com/tl93lx/home.html). The 'Net is a good starting point for data, but we ultimately hope that somewhere, somehow, through someone, we'll be able to get to the bottom of finding out exactly how many siblings our 5.0 T-top coupe really had.
Very little information on production numbers is acquirable to this date, but numbers are estimated to be less than 10% of coupes in the production year periods.

Maybe I shouldn't sell my 88 TTop after all... Seems more rare than I thought! 281 Made in 88. But I checked it out myself... here is one questionable source, but same number was given here as you read on about this guys stang.

I find it hard to believe that so few were made in 1988. I myself have owned two of them. The first was made in late in 1987 and it came with the doors from a normal hard top, you could tell from the mirrors, the one i still own today was made in early 88 and it came with the doors off of a convertable mustang with the different mirrors.
To check and see how rare these doors are just try to have ford supply you with glass for them and then wait for months to have it made!!! This might be something for people in the know to look up... how many came with the convertable doors and frame??? Besides the two that i owned there is still a few on the street here in Vancouver... so 281 seems a little low to me...
but just in case i have kept it!!!

After looking around longer, I found someone working for Ford, in production. ( sorry, i will not give contact info as he requested that I didn't ) But there has to be more than 281 he insists, if you look on eBay there are 88 TTOPS sold, as mine was, and everyone says they are rare, But what I think matters is, it is the rarest TTOP FOX BODY MUSTANG... 1988! And the one I just sold, it had the convertable mirrors ( so called escort mirrors too ) it had a scheduled build date of 11/87 and was sold as an 88 Model with CALIFORNIA 88 Specs including MAF. So many people argued MAF was first in 1989, but nope, CA had it first in 1988. Anyway, I sold it cheap, didn't put a reserve on it, and for being a so called rare car, nobody seemed to care to much to pay a nice amount of $$$$ for it. -Nick

1988 Mustang T-top

I ordered my Mustang in August of 87. In October I got a call from my salesman to tell me that Ford had sent out notice that they were stopping production of the T roof cars. But because I ordered mine they were going to honor the purchase and build it.
I got the car in early Nov of 87.
When I got it it had 48 miles on it. It came with a letter from Ford that they test drove it on their track at the plant and put those miles on it.
I drove the crap out of that car!!!!!
It is a LX 5.0 5spd, grey with grey cloth.
I loved that car....So it still sits here at my house.

I wish I could find a LX 5.0 t-roof number I would love to know that #
any input?
Troy
