Main Girdles

I had a freind ask me today how much more a main girdle system would get you so far as block rating. Stock block, with forged internals. Odviously the internals are not going to be the weak link, main cap walking and rpms stress will damage the block, I told him that a girdle would help prolong the life of the block, as well as possibly going to a windsor firing order to reduce block stress on the front end of the block. But does anyone really have any good guesstimate as to how much HP you could support on a stock block with a 347ci stroker and a main cap girdle system?

A stud girdle provides very little in making a block stronger. It will help a little as far as cap walk but the main job of the girdle is to keep the internals in place.. Here is another piece that helps is block split..

According to everything I've seen, they're a waste of $$$. If your blocks going to split, it's going to split right along the bearing caps. All the girdle does it keep everything together after the block splits.

No they are not a waste of money for 2 reasons 1. They do help in reducing or eliminating cap walk 2. It keeps your rotating assy contained in the block in case of major failure.. If you split the block why not at least try and save your crankshaft? Imagine havin your block split 3\4 of the way down the strip at 100+ mph and it bounces off the track and comes through the floor and rips your cock and balls off...

That'd be a loss I couldn't deal with.

I appreciate the responses, I do understand the concept of the girdle, just unsure if that equated to more power potential. Anyhoo thank you all for the responses.
