thermostat
my car is an 88 converted to mass air, cold air intake, 70 mm bbk throttle body, e- 303 cam, gt-40 upper and lower intake, mac headers, under drive pullys, I just recently put a 165 degree thermostat does this matter does this have any affect on how the car will perform.

The colder thermostat will make the computer think the engine is cold and will feed the engine more fuel. Not really benificial and there have been people that have done bearing damage on high mileage engines due to large amounts of gas in the oil from running 160 degree thermostats. That doesn't happen very often though. Your mileage will surely drop though.

a 195 is the factory spec'd thermostat for a FI engine. If your parts store couldn't find a 180 for a 5.0, have them look for a 180 degree stat for a early 70's 302 or find a knowledgable parts person at another store..

go to your part store and give them part number 4364. that is the part number for a 180 stat by mr gasket and if they don't have it then tell them to cross it over to ther number, should be from $8 - $12
