buying an Explorer....

...and was wondering what all differences there are between a 96 Explorer 5.0 and a Mustang 5.0. It's my daily, and I'll be doing intake/exhaust/tune for better mpg's, but i didn't know what I could do performance-wise with it using Mustang parts. It's all compatible, right?

Most parts are for a 5.0 all parts for them are interchangeable the only vechile spacific parts you would have to buy is exhaust and a tuner

most of the parts for the 96-00' 5.0 explorer are interchangeable with our mustang 5.0s. for example, 5.0 explorers came equiped with gt40 heads or gt40p heads (on later models) and a gt40 "explorer" intake. these parts are considered an 'upgrade' over our mustang 5.0s restrictive intake and e7te heads. IMO, they are just glorified stock parts though. after the price of reworking the heads and the other parts, your pretty close to a nice set of trickflow heads.
