4.10 install

i searched and couldnt find what i was looking for, so i apologize if this has been asked previously.

my friends dad is going to help me install 4.10's in my 88 GT, along with new bearings, and a rebuilt trac-lok. i bought a FRPP gear set, FRPP Carbon Fiber rebuild kit, and a Motive Bearing/Installation kit all from American Muscle. i have all the parts i need, just locating some tools, and i think all i need to pick up is a 0-100in/lb torque wrench to set the preload and some loctite, but heres my question.

i rented a 2/3 Jaw Puller from autozone to remove the bearing flange from the pinion. can we use that to remove the old bearings, or must i locate a bearing puller? if so, could somebody give me a link to the proper tool to buy/rent? thanks

Did you read through the sticky "trac lok rebuild" in this section? I'm not sure if he covered your question or not, but it's a good thread to read if you're doing a gear swap.

Good luck with that puller to get the bearing off of the pinion. Do you have a press to install the bearing on the new pinion?

i picked up a bearing separator today at Harbor Freight. were going to use that, along with the puller to get the old one off.

we dont have a press to get the new bearing on, but i remember watching a show on Spike's Powerblock on Sunday morning, and a simple way to get the bearing on, without a press, is to simply heat it up and drop it onto the pinion. the heat should expand the bearing enough to let it slide into place.

i think 1slo5.0 is right. the jaw puller i have wont reach far enough to grab onto the bearing separator to pull it off. ill have to return it, and buy one with a longer reach.
