Brakes

hey, i just replaced my brake pads.. pushed pistons back in.. were giving me a little trouble but got them flat, but my pads are rubbing and smelling like burnt rubber and metal and heating up REAL bad... so it's like they're constantly braking.. whats up do you think?

Jack up the car and try to spin the wheel. I can't tell by your comment but was the piston always straight and not pitched at an angle while you were trying to get it in? Did you have the master cylinder cap off when you were doing this? I've never seen front pads hang unless the pistons were screwed up or something jacked with the way the pads were in. Did you have a hard time getting the calipers back on?

yeah i had a little trouble getting one back on.. and i dont think the pistons were messed up.. i had to struggle a little with a C clamp but it still went in as far as i could tell all the way.. and yeah when i jack up either side and spin the wheel it rubs..

sounds like you didnt take the cap off of the master cylinder, so when you pressed the piston back in, it somewhat pressurized the system a little bit. i could be way off here though.

i would just pop the cap off slowly and listen for any pressure. be sure to have a rag at the ready, because some fluid is probably going to overflow out of it.

if that doesnt fix the problem completely. then i would take the calipers off again, push the piston into the bore again, and reinstall them. with the cap off of course.

under the hood, drivers side back near the firewall. its yellowish-white, with a black cap on it. just twist it off.

its worth a shot i guess. i would just redo the calipers with the cap off now. hopefully that does it for you.
