Horsepower on a budget

Ok I was wondering what are some inexpensive ways to gain some HP?? I've already done headers, exhaust, a nice tune-up, and a BBK cold air intake. I'm 16 and I'm trying to find a job so at the moment I don't have much money. For now I have around $400 to spend, any ideas??

Do you think the GT40 heads would give me some pretty good HP?? I've been checking around for heads, I just want to get as much power as possible from whatever I get. And I'm still trying to stay under $500 because I still have to get parts to go along with the heads.

great upgrade from stock E7 heads
you'll probably see a bigger boost in HP and TQ than any other part in a "budget build"

and on another note 4:10's are the best way to go if you have an auto
if not, 3:73's would also be a great upgrade from the 2:73's

Ok well I do have an automatic so 4:10's would be better than 3:73's in my case?? And if I go with GT40 heads what else do I need to purchase to install them??

I know I sound like i don't know very much but it's just that it's my first car and I'm getting to know all of it. I just haven't really ever messed with heads before. But everything else thats on the car so far, I've done on my own.

You won't be able to get a set of gt40s and put new springs in them for 400 unless you buy them like that. Can't forget head bolts/gaskets/oil/coolant

Well would I be in the $500-$700 range?? Because I should have a job here in the coming weeks so I'll start making some money and I don't have any other bills except paying for gas so it'll all be going into my car.

That sounds more like the price range to do those heads properly...and 4.10's would be much better since you have an AOD. Also, you can put nitroous on the car....comes with instructions and you can pick an edelbrock or NOS kit for around 500$

You will feel more difference by installing 4.10s than you would with putting GT40s on.

In your budget, I'd replace worn out suspension parts like shocks. This can make a world of difference in the way a car drives. You'd be amazed at how many cars I've seen that are over a decade old (sometimes over 30 years old) that are running blown, original shocks.

Based on your budget, I'd do gears.

You could get GT40s, but eventually you'll want more, and you'll end up taking 'em off for something better. Especially if you go cheap and get iron GT40s.

Well I'm deffinetly gonna do 4.10's. And my dad is a cop so he doesn't want me doing nitrous, but he doesn't care what I do to the motor, so that's why I'm trying to find ways of making straight motor power.

I'm going to do gears (4.10's), but do you think I could find some GT40 heads maybe at a junkyard somewhere for cheap??

GT40s? Yeah, you pull 'em off a 2000ish Explorer.

But that wasn't my point - my point was why go through the effort of GT40s when eventually you'll want Trick Flows or AFRs or something along those lines. Don't spend the money twice - get gears now, and heads when you can afford the ones you actually want, not just slightly better ones that you can afford now.

Ok thank you. I'm deffinetly doing 4.10's.

On a different note, would it be a bad idea to do a cam swap on it with the stock heads??

That's what I hear. Cam swap on stock heads usually loses a little bit of power.
