Mini spool questions....

Hey guys, new to the forums and wanted to get some input from you guys that have used or are currently using a mini spool in your foxes. Reason i ask this is my clutches in my rear end are toast and i don't wanna have to change the clutches every season just to catch posi when I'm in the mood to get sideways . I was originally gonna go with the carbon fiber one's in hopes to keep them from burning out but a buddy of mine who owns 2 mustangs told me i was just wasting my money and just get a mini spool and be done with it. So my main question is how is the daily driveability on a mini spool? It rains alot here and i wanna know if its pouring out that I'm not gonna slide around like I'm on ice. Any input on this would be much appreciated. Thanks

i have a pulling truck with a spool, it sucks for daily driving, and driving in rain, and they will kill your tires FAST

If I were going to get in there, I wouldn't do a mini-spool, I'd just upgrade to a regular spool. The mini-spools aren't as strong, and the whole unit will be heavier once you're done.

That being said, I don't think you want a spool. While they're the most controllable and predictable type of limited-slip, with no differentiation in wheel speeds, you WILL drift corners, and you'll chirp your tires in parking lots.

If you're tired of changing clutches, I'd look at a better LSD, like a torsen or an auburn. Depends on your budget, though, as either of those options will likely set you back at least $700.

You might also look into an OX locker. They're a selectable locker that uses a cable to switch between open and fully locked. So you have a spool when that's appropriate and an open diff when you need it. I've only seen OX Lockers used in 4x4s, though, as they act just like an air locker, and with a car you usually want the limited slip to engage as you come out of a corner.

i would just upgrade to a better limited slip like Dexter said, you willnot be happy with a spool if you are daily driving it. if its a weekend toy then it would not be so bad.

thats just my .02

I put those in my t-lock when I put my 3:55s in. Huge difference, really tight, no more 1 wheel peel. It works great and leaves perfect staggered tread marks if I roast em'. Worth the money for sure.

A spool is no good if you drive it much. If you just take it out on the weekends, it's not that big of a deal, but you're taking about driving it in the rain. That's an accident waiting to happen.
