clutch slip

i had my 89 GT dynoed. at about 5500 rpms the torque and hp dips. i am only get 268 rwhp and 300 torque. i could get more, maybe 280 rwhp and 307 torque. when it was being dynoed i notice smoke coming from underneth the motor around the rear main. we look and of course the rear main was leaking pretty bad and it got onto the clutch. he thinks now that its a clutch slip thats causeing the dip on the dyno. it seems to make sense. what do yall think. now, he did 15-17 runs and the dip is there in the same place every time and it is harder to put in gear

my clutch is like that now, I like it better that way, the clutch grabs quick close to the floor and that makes the car feel more like a serious speed machine, lol, compared to a clutch grabbing up high

Send that king cobra clutch back, it would be worth it to spend a lil bit more money and get a better heavy duty one, my centerforce df was only $305

No not really the low pedal can be addressed by adjusting. but those clutches are goos for street only on a stock or lightly modded car. If you have any kind of real power and run slicks at the track good luck...

my brother has one on his 94 GT. he had the same problem with the king cobra. then he had it ajusted and it feels great and i am not wanting more then 350-400 rwhp. so i think it will be ok. at least better then what i have now. but, my ? was could that cause the slip in the dyno?

It sure could cause a slip on the dyno.. 350-400 rwhp is a lot more than you think.. I would not recommend a King Cobra for that much power..

Again...the king cobra is a Valeo clutch. The same company that has made the STOCK clutch for Ford for years now. It is a good product. Its not the best "race" clutch but it will work fine. Mine held 500 whp. Now I upgrades to a Spec 4.

+1, listen to Stangzilla, do not get a king cobra clutch, you have to think about longevity and reliability, I also think a k. cobra would be too risky with 350+ rwhp
