Electric fan wiring

I have 2 slimline electric fans from my old Talon and wanna throw them on the stang cause I think the fan clutch is going out and wanna also free up some horsepower. Anyone know the best way to wire both of them up and could you please tell me exactly where to tap into? Don't have a multimeter handy

Appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance.

Splice it into your ignition switch, then when you turn the switch it comes on. Just a newbie idea.

the safe way to do this is with a relay. on my other car i have a temp switch that controls when my fan comes on. it comes on at 180 and off at 170. all by it self so it doesn't run all the time. one 16" fan can draw upto 20 amps. maybe 30. 2 would draw twice as much. you would be better off getting the temp switch and using a relay to turn it on and off. i also use a manual override toggle switch to power up the whole system. so i can turn the fan off to race for more power. ..........just my .02 cents

listen to marks87gt. use a relay cuz hookin it direct is the wrong way to do it.you would burn up the fans quicker by running them direct.

Yeah, don't plan on running them direct. Thanks for the advice guys. Car is an 88. Part number needed for relay? What about temp switch?

That stuff is expensive as hell for just some wiring, end connectors, toggle switch, etc. I pretty much have everything except for the relay and temp sending unit. Also wondering where I'd screw in the sending unit at???

If someone could just gimme good part numbers for those 2 parts, and tell me where to install the sending unit, that'd be great!!! Oh yeah, and where to tap into for the wiring, being that I don't have a mulitmeter. Thanks.

If you dont have a meter go to the store and spend a couple a bucks and get yourself a test light at least..

The sending unit should slide between the fins in the radiator. Use a good ground of the body, like the one just to the right of ur starter solenoind and a direct power from ur solenoid with a in line 30 amp fuse.

Alternator change?

With the fan drawing in the 30A range, will the factory rated alternator be adequate? Thanks.

3G upgrade

Thanks for the reply.

Are 3G alternator kits drop in replacement or "some" mod involved?

I plan on doing th 3g upgrade and putting in a black magic fan like mark87 suggested with an overall on/off switch and a thermostat.

If you have a thermostat you pretty much don't need a switch. The reason switches aren't recommended is because people forget to turn them on. Thermostat will turn it on and off when it is supposed to happen. Also wire it to your a/c so it will come on like it is supposed to when the compressor kicks on. If you don't have a thermostat you either have to continuously turn it off and on or leave it on all the time which causes more load on the alt which pulls horses from your engine. Defeats the purpose of underdrive pulleys.
