MGW Shifters are the best!
i just got it today. the install wasnt that bad. the only parts i hated was having to take of hella dash panels to get to the bolts on the old one, i have a 93 gt. the throw is extremlt short and smooth, the centering springs are great never miss a gear. u come out of second and it practicly throws itself into third. i highly suggest this shifter along with the rubber shroud that MGW makes for it. no more road sound and it has absaloutly no vibration. very sturdy.

I just install a Hurst Short shifter in my 94 GT, works sweet, it has centering springs, and like you said when you get out of second, you just gotta push stright up into third, no movment except up, and stright down to forth. You can never miss a shift. 500% better than stock, mine was EASY to install.
