I used the Quarterhorse in my old 88 Notch that I just sold. You've got to be able to read and understand EFI systems to be able to understand it. Honestly you don't end up changing a whole bunch of stuff. Most of it stays the same as your stock computer. Lucky for me I've got a buddy who has had one for the past 4 years and knows pretty much all the in's and out's of the Quarterhorse. He has been a life saver!

The Quarterhorse and the TwEECer have a bit of a learning curve to them. If you're looking for something simple to tune the anderson PMS is more user friendly to someone getting into tuning. The trade-off is that they're more expensive and don't actually change parameters in the computer itself, they fudge the data going in and coming out. They work just fine, but you can fine tune with the Moates and TwEEcer better. If you want easy tuning and you're willing to spend the extra and don't need to squeeze every last drop of hp, go with the PMS.

I agree with what Fogged and the others have said. If you want to learn more about how EFI tuning works you may want to get yourself some reading material. It helped me out a lot. I got Engine Management Advanced Tuning by Greg Banish. It answered a lot of my questions and helped me in deciding to delve into the tuning world a lot further.

Anyway. It basically breaks down the process of tuning a EFI car whether it be MAF or Speed Density. The methods he teachs are pretty much universal and will work with any tuning software suite, stand alone or piggie back. It filled in a lot of the holes I had when it came to the tuning process in my mind at least and its cheap (the book). It was less than $20 when I got it at the local book store. LoL Indeed! No problem. Your going to love QH. There is actually a lot of support for QH online (Not through moates) and a lot of guys run it. There are actually a lot of strategies you can download off the net that will get you really close to where you need to be. So you don't have to do a lot of legwork from the get go. I am actually going to be tuning a SN95 cobra with a single turbo on QH here in the very near future. He is currently running a stratedgy he downloaded off the net and I was suprised at just how close it is already! It needs some drivability tuning but it is damn near dead nuts on at WOT.

I just bought one for the 94 project. Seems easy enough to figure out the parameters, plus tons of people share bin files on EECtuning forum.
It took me about 1 full day to figure out the software parts of it. Still need to actually install the hardware part of it and do some tuning. Let ya know how it works out. But it is definitely a less expensive route to go, plus you can monitor what the computer is doing real time and make changes real time. That's a huge plus in my book.

PMS is plug and play with all the features you'll need.. Any tuner that knows how to tune can tune with them and the two step feature works really well.
Moates stuff is nice too and I run it on my gmc syclone but the pms is so easy and I have the intract software with my pms so I can data log as well just like the moates stuff if I wanted to. |

I'm using a tweecer, and yeah there was a huge learning curve to get things figured out, but ultimatly I bought it for the tuner to setup and get a few different tunes loaded.

You could contact the tuner that you plan on using and get him to create a baseline tune and email it to you, one of the best around here does that, but charges $75 and takes that off your dyno tune, too many people just taking the baseline and running with it....

He's talking about a base tune with known good data... You would still be doing the tuning, but you would get a base tune with the basic's already set. There is a program EEC Analyzer or something like that, that will help you build a base tune for QH. But getting a known good tune through a tuner would be a better idea than using that program as long as the tuner knows what he is doing and does actually have known good base tunes/data.

Yup... The only way to get better control than QH for the money is Megasquirt in my opinion. Then BS3 after that, even though it is expensive, it is the best stand alone I have had the pleasure of working with so far.
