Clutch recommendations

I have an '89 GT, its a 5 speed with a fresh 306, Ford racing steel crank with a main girdle, Speed Pro Forged 10.13:1 pistons, an E 303 cam, Aluminum 202 heads, GT-40 upper and lower intake, BBK cold air intake, BBK equal length shortys with a BBK X-pipe and flowmaster mufflers, 373 gears, and I have a BBK 65mm throttlebody and a 70 maf with 24# injectors on the way. Im wondering what kind of clutch would be good. I think there is a king cobra in there now but I want to put something new in when I put the car back together. I plan on beating the snot out of this car cause if I dont then whats the point of building it right?

In the past..notice past. I ran a Centerforce with a lot of luck. I have not ran a stick in many years. A running buddy has been running a 575rwhp Mod motor with a Tremec and Ram clutch setup with nothing but good luck. Of course it is very sticky and a little stiff but it hooks. I know a few others that are running Centerforce/Motorsports pressure plate clutch combos also and they seem to work well.

I'm running a King Cobra with my Tremec - so far so good - nothing but a good grab. I heard the Spec clutches are real nice as well...

Could I use my king cobra pressure plate with a different brand of clutch disc or should I just buy a whole new setup? Im not sure what wears out in a clutch other than the disc so I am just wondering if this is possible.

I've had a Spec stage 3+ in my old Talon and loved it. Have a Spec stage 3 in the Mustang and love it too. The regular ole stage 3 is a lil grabby but works just perfectly fine for me. I'm sure a stage 2 woulc be just fine depending on your mods and of course is a lil more slippable. I'm definately loving Spec though.

I have a ZOOM stage III 6puck race clutch in mine. The ZOOM line is pretty good stuff. I used a stage I in my 03 Eclipse. Very smooth. The 6puck design isn't very streetable, but I'm gonna be hardressed to hurt the damn thing.
If you plan on kickin' the hell outta your clutch on a regular basis, get a puck style. If not, get a solid disc design.

Welcome to MM bro... Nice how you just jumped right into shop talk. Cool.

Its prolly not anything you wanna do more than once, but if thats your thing, go for it.

Coupla question:
1) Budget
2) Comfort
3) Future mods
4) Are you gonna be the only driver?

In that case, Spec 2. It's streetable and will be good for any upgrades you may plan on doing in the future.

those are all good clutches, but they are very expensive. i ran a s/c 331 in a 87 lx with a king cobra and a spec flywheel and it still runs great and grabs hard with limited leg effort. bang for your buck try a king cobra spec aluminum flywheel combo. you will be pleased

The ZOOM line-up is all relatively inexpensive
