Trany myths

Hey all. I have a 1989 5.0 vert AT. The trans is shot. Im being told all sorts of options:
I could use:
sn95 v6 or v8 trans
any fox trans
or even the older c6's and c4's
So is there any truth to these? Any FACTS would be very helpful to me thanks!!

You can use any tranny you want if you can do the work to get things to match up right....

Just sayin'

Hey so i tried to put in a c6 that was behind a 460 in a galaxy 500 and could not make the holes match up. the starter was way to high as well. Am I missing something simple and just making this harder on myself?

You were probably using the wrong bellhousing.

The sn-95 transmissions have a longer input shaft so you would have to swap shafts. The v6 transmissions are rated at less than the v8 transmissions. If you're running 114 in the 1/4, don't use a v6 trans or a 4 cyl trans from a fox.

Why not rebuild the auto and get a good converter and shift kit?

The c6 that I have is a one part case. The bell housing is not removable. I am exploring the sn transmissions though. I do have access to an aode that was behind a 4.6 dont know if that would be an option though
