ET streets / DR on stock wheel?

Will the stock 1987, 4 lug, 15"wheels hold up to ET streets or Nitto 555R drag radials? I see the strip 2-3 times per year. Just pulled down a 13.1 at 107 on Saturday. This is with a 5 speed, 3.73 gears, Vortech V3, OR H-pipe, plus a little more. I was launching at idle becuase anything else spun on my 225/50/16 street tires (of course!) This was with a 1.91 60' time. I should mention I'm putting full length subframes, torque box reinforcements, and maybe rear uppers and lowers before I run with the new tires next spring.

The 15"s are sitting in my garage. I was thinking of putting some rubber on them and just swapping them out when I go to the strip. Good idea or not?

Also, does anyone know how wide tire will fit on this 15" rim with no rub and with no other mods to my fenders (not even a fender roll)?

Wont be an issue, I also hear that the nitto isnt that great/sticky of a tire anyways. As far as how wide? Depends how wide your rim is. But I would run a 255 or 275.

yea, and all you need is a 235/60/15

if you could get some 15x8 wheels (stockers are 7") then you could step up to a 275/50/15

what adder said. but i would advise away from 555r's especially with a manual. I had them and i would consider them more of a street tire than a drag radial. don't hook very well.

I forgot to mention it's lowered 1 1/2". Shouldn't matter with a 235 though, right? 235 60 15 ET streets should get me plenty of bite, huh? That's what I'll use next spring! Thanks guys! Hello 12's!!!

I have ran Nitto 555R on my 01 WS6 transam and my 98 Camaro SS. When they were new they were very stickey but after a few thousand miles they took a long burnout to get to hook up. That was with a Yank ST3500 Stall and 3.73 gears though, It left pretty hard!

With the ET streets, will anything else in the stock driveline be an issue?

I'm planning to try to launch at about 2k. The only thing I changed from stock in the driveline is 3.73 motorsport gears, a rebuilt diff with kevlar clutches, motorsport HD clutch, and a driveshaft loop. The goal eventually is low 12's, but you know how you want it faster once you hit your goal. I had thought about 28 spline chromoly axles, but didn't know if I needed that yet. 28's basically because I wouldn't have to change the diff or get a spool. Plus, if I went that far with axles, why not go 31 or 33 spline and change to 5 lug, etc. etc. etc. Is any of this necessary, or should I wait until the car is quicker and keep the stock axles for now?

Launching at 2K? What are you, a girl? Lol, but seriously, don't launch that low on slicks/drag radials, try more like 3.5K-5K for really good times. If you are going for low 12's you shouldn't break anything immediately with the stock rear end. Over time, anything can break.
