BANG no more engine (help!)
shifted into second gear @about 2000 rpms and it looks like my fucking crank broke in half. the end of the crank is out of the block thru the timing cover ripped the timing chain all to shit etc.. no holes anywhere else.. as much as i can see, by the position of the the crank it prolly took a few rods with it. no warning at all car has been running great. pulls hard no knocks or any noise whatsoever. killer fuel economy for what it is.
so my short block is toast.. heads maybe even what else? i dont know these cars well enough to know if the damn thing fucked up my input shaft on the tranny or what i should be expecting to replace. im coming from turbo 4cyl dodge land thinking i should have stayed. im hoping somebody can shed some light on what i should expect to replace. im looking for options on replacing the broken shit. heads were ported stock junk. dunno about my cam it was just an e303 way the crank is sitting halfway out the motor its prolly bent. so its looking like a tall block.. ideas? sourced a couple 88k-100k explorer engines for cheap (450$).. what years will fit?? or should i dump coins and buy a reman tall block.. all i can find tho is frpp with junk aluminum x heads. thank in advance luckily i hit the store for beer before it broke so i can drown my sorrows and let my wallet know its about to be sacrificed. clue me in thanks in advance. |

sounds like your block split which is a common problem, altho usually takes more hp than what you're pushing if you're trapping 107. an explorer long block would work, then you'll have gt40 heads/intake. just buy a good cam to replace the stocker and your e303 and you'll be good to go. also it shouldn't of affected your input shaft if it came outwords to the front, might be looking at a new clutch/flywheel tho.

yeah car is a sled. my dodge runs a 12.5 with 4 less cylinders. i bought this car just to tool around and i have never beat on it. never even spun the tires.
i sourced a 2000 explorer engine for cheap. are there things i need to change to make it fit? thinking flywheel is def toast prolly the disk pissed brand new king cobra. gt40 intake better than the cobra which i have on there now?? i have a holley systemax i just bought so id prolly use that. i have a 75mm Tb tho.. i dunno if it fits the holley. |

woody owns a company called ford strokers and build lots and lots of motors. my only negative thing about him(if you wanna call it a negative) is that it takes some time to get a motor from him, prolly 4 months or so now from the time you place the order to the time you get it.
the comp extreme energy cams are good ones as far as off the shelf cams go, i myself have a camshaft innovations custom cam which would be the best way to go, but they are a little more expensive. and also you may be right, it might have the hyper pistons in it, but for most occasions it will be perfectly strong enough for an h/c/i motor.

How much money are you willing to spend? I can get shortblocks around here for $300 all day. Find one cheap and go for some used trickflows and get the right cam for those heads and a systemax and you'll be better than a 12.5 and dd it no problem.

if you're interested in buying some better heads and what not then check out corral.net, they have a huge classified section. i'd go ahead and buy the explorer unit for 450, then if you wanna swap heads you can prolly sell the explorer heads you get for around 200.

where i came from forged is everything.. i run 27 psi thru an old school 2.2 4 cyl and if the pistons werent forged the rods werent forged and the crank wasnt forged it breaks. figured it was an applicable question seeing at some point the car i run will get a hairdryer.

Stock block is only good for about 550-600 depending who you ask and what day it is. So if you play on going big someday, you need to look into an aftermarket block too. The only FOX mustang that came with hypers is the 93 and same thereafter. Explorer motor will have hyper's too.
