My 418 stroker build!

Looking for more opinions here! Here is what I have so far: C-9 block, Yates 2.150 x 1.60 c-3 heads, matching intake, which both are fully ported and polished, here are pics: , , I am looking to purchase the crank, rods and pistons sometime soon,, where can I find the best deal on these parts? On the pistons I need a 10cc dish piston to put my comression at 11.5 to 1. What do you guys think?

You'll need custom pistons with those heads most likely. You might be able to use a cleveland stroker piston, probe makes some that might work with the correct rod.

Ok, I just ordered Eagle forged crank and Eagle forged H beam 3-D rods, next is pistons. I have done a ton of research on these Yates heads and some say they have 40cc, and some say they have 58-60cc, what is the easiest way to find out? Another question, where can I get the best price on a set of forged custom pistons?

ok,, found this site: FORDMUSCLE webmagazine: Fundamentals - Measuring Combustion Chamber Volume
showing me how to find out what cc's my heads are, did it and they are 40cc heads. I am thinking the diamond rep told me that with 60cc heads I would have to run a 30cc dish piston for 9.5 to 1 compression, so if I want to run 11.5 to 1 compression I can stay with the 30cc dish piston??? Thanks for any imput!

I would take those heads to a machine shop and have them CC'd, just to be positive. You never know if someone has decked them, and that's not something you want to figure out later, when you can't figure out why it's detonating.

You won't be able to run a cleveland piston. They don't offer one in the compression height you need.

Yeah I have searched and searched for the pistons I need, and have had no luck. I will probably have to have a custom set made. The other night I found a set of forged trw's but the compression height was wrong. This build started out to be a budget build to give me something to do over the winter as I am laid off, but as everyone knows there is no such, lol....With only 18 post I can not post in the classifieds a WTB thread for a set of forged 4.030-30cc dish-with a 1.230 compression height pistons!! Anyhow,, I should have one bad street machine when I'm done!!!

Yeah, it's going to be tough. When you order a set order 2 extras pistons. Trust me on that. It will be about a grand. You can alos check with diamond, CP, Ross, JE and see who had the best price. If you plan on spraying the motor make sure to tell them so they can set your ring package up for it.

If you order extras with a set they are alot cheaper then if you hurt one and have to order a new one. Plus, you have to pay extra then to have the rotating assembly re-balanced.

I would think that a good company would save that program for you, so that if this did happen they could use the same program to make more?

Ok,, this is where I am at on my 418 build: C-9 block, yates C-3 heads and matching intake (2.150 x 1.65), Jesel 1:65 rockers, Diamond 36 dish forged pistons, Eagle forged crank and rods, Isky RR-714/272 INT RR-672/280EX. lobe center 108 degree roller cam, should be at 11:1, I still need comp roller lifters, valley pan, oil pump, and carb. What do you guys think so far?

You can send them your original order number but, it costs more to do it that way. If you order them all at once you save money.

LOL,, whats another $800 for pistons... You seem pretty knowledgable, if my rotating goods are internally balanced, can I run a 28 oz or a 50 oz flywheel and dampner as long as both are the same weight, or do I have to have both without weights on them? I now have a 5.0 in the car and wondering if I can just swap it out with the 418, using the flywheel and t-5?

Nope, you need zero balance stuff. Most/many of the good balancers have bolt on weights

Double check the run-out on that crank. I've seen woody from fordstrokers talking about how eagle will let them leave with some excessive out of roundness. I believe he stopped using them all together.

Thanks, so what tooth flywheel for a t-5 or does this matter? I feel like a retard asking all these questions, I've only built sbc's, and everything works together, lol!
