Question

Port and Polished

If you get heads and the intake ported and polished does it make that much performance difference ?

i know but the engine shop by my house charges 350 to do the intake and heads thats why i was wondering how much of a difference it makes to see if its actually worth the cost or not

Its not worth the money. Youll maybe put down like 240s just upgrade to gt40 stuff and have it ported and polished youll be looking at better gains like that.

If that's the last set of heads that you are going to put on your car, then maybe it's worth it to you. As far as porting the cobra intake, that's not really a necessity except for matching it back up with the ported heads. So basically a port-match on the lower will be fine. Some people still get the lower ported, but it all depends on how good they are at porting.

Personally, I think it would be worth it if you got the car with that stuff on it. You can get ported/polished GT40 heads/intake up to 320RWHP with the right cam and supporting mods. I would do it personally, just for the "yeah, it's stock" factor. Up to you though.

It's different on every application, so saying it will give you XX horsepower is impossible. If the port on your head is larger than the port on the intake, the air basically hits a wall when it gets there. You could easily see 20-30 hp with a good port match. $350 isn't a bad price.

porting your stock intake is wothless as it flows much more then your stock heads ever will. the best performance mod you can do is suspension..power will do you no good if you cannot get it do the ground.

but for arguement sake... if you bring any head to a shop for them to "port" ask then if they have and use a flow bench during their porting process. if they do not then dont bother.. there are soo many aftermarket heads flooding the market for soo cheap its pointless to spend 300 on a set of crap gt40 heads when you can spend 600 on a set of used aluminum heads...

and i think u meant if u port the intake larger than the head the air will hit a wall...

400 is a bad price for a trackheat when I paid 1500 for my entire car, that's almost a 1/3 of the price just for that intake

^^^ This

Good port work is not cheap......All my stuff is off being ported right now, and cheap was nowhere in the conversation.

your big trick flow intake being choked by small heads for 400 was a bad deal when his gt40 stuff ported is going to flow good, if you dont have hella money and already have gt40 heads and intake and they are gona port the shit out of them for 350 then do it, thats gona be the best bang for your buck if you dont want to buy expensive aluminum heads and intake

with enough port work you can flow big enough numbers to compete with a set of aluminum heads but the aftermarket aluminum stuff will be lighter designed better

Whenever I see you post on this issue, it's "buy trickflow, gt40 stuff sucks" in a sense. Your trickflow intake is nothing special! A ported explorer intake can flow just as much...We've been over this. Just cause the ports are bigger doesn't mean anything. Case closed.
