5.0 With alot of miles...

Hello. Im new to this site.

I just bought a 1995 Mustang GT Coupe with the 5.0 motor.
Now Im not new to Mustangs and have owned several in the past.
However, the Mustang I just bought has 187k miles on it. It seems to run and drive well, though the belt is slipping and squeaking and really pissing me off (lol, getting a new one today).
I was just wondering what engine components I need to see about replacing or stuff that I should be checking on for wear. I am on a limited budget and just want to make sure the car is running well while I tinker with it. It is going to be my everyday driver. So, any help with this would be great. Thanks in advance!

If it's not leaking or smoking I wouldn't screw with it. Check compression, give it a good tune up if needed and run the car. High mileage doesn't scare me anymore. Many people go 300,000 miles on well maintained american cars today.

To solve the belt squeeling issue, go get a gatorback belt

It does not smoke at all. It looks like I might have a small oil leak at the intake manifold, but dont seem to have any water in the oil (so thats good). Distributor cap has already been replaced. Plug Wires have been replaced with 8mm Ford Racing wires. Im assuming the plugs have been changed, but I need to check it. Cold air intake is my next purchase. After the belt of course.

Intake gaskets are cake. But I'm sure it will have helacious idle issues once you unseal it.

Your car doesn't need nor will benefit from an aftermarket coil

So my car doesn't benefit from the MSD coil in it either? If I had a car with 175k or whatever on it and it was 15 years old, I would sure as shit replace the coil. The Ford coils weren't that great anyway. Maybe I should start sending you the factory coils out of the cars I yank them from. Hell, my car only had 70k on it when I tossed the stocker.

Actually I have heard the stock coil is the best coil. I have heard of the MSD's having issues. I have an aftermarket coil but kept my stocker just in case.

I have the world famous BWD coil from advance.

Up here in MN, our Mustangs generally don't accumulate that many miles due to having only a 6 month driving season. I haven't really looked, but I've never seen a fox up here that the owner has said has been over 170k. I'm sure they exist, but I haven't come accross any.

So... what everyone is saying is... I should stick with a stock coil?
Cause I was thinking about going with an MSD 44000 volt coil...

I'd just do a good tuneup , oil change, and swap out the fuel pump for a 190 or 255 and change the fuel filter.
