my radio keeps going off

hi can anyone help me . i have a 1987lx convertible i just changed my pullys, and when i slow down my radio keeps going off then a few seconds it comes back on agian. i bought the car in californa, i'm from ny. it has an after market radio in it. it used to shut off once in awhile but it really does it now ever time i start putting on my brakes and slowing down. also my stock temp gauge keeps moving up and down it'll go to the o and then onnce i'm driving for a while it'll go to the red. then it'll go back to the middle, but it never stays still. i can sit there and turn my lights on and the gauge moves it up then when i shut off my lights it'll go down. do i have a short somewhere and if so how do i find it thanks, please help me.

I think you have a ground issue. I believe you need you get your head up under the dash and start redoing all the grounds under the screws. Scrape the metal before you put the ground ring (or fork) back on. Look around, there is a few.

it sounds like something is wrong w/the charging system, but test the battery anyway. It may also be an issue with the stereo ground itself. My guages do funny shit too. Probably bad grounds behind the dash, or some voltage regulation problem.

It's probably the charging if it only shuts off at lower rpms. When you put the underdrive pulleys it makes the Alternator turn slower. Therefore less voltage. If your Alternator was already weak, its even weaker now. Get it tested like mentioned above.

Do all of the above. If you had weak grounds, weak alternator, weak battery, etc.... the problem is only going to be magnified by the use of underdrive pulley's. March Power and Amp series are the only way to go...

Turn the car on, and unplug the battery. If the car dies your Alternator is bad.

Dont ever do this. It can cause a power surge in the alternator that can not only fry the internal electronics of the alternator itself, but possibly some of the electronics in the car itself (like your ECM)
