Question

Rev Limiter

So i need some kind of a rev limiter on my car because every time i pull out and stomp on it it breaks loose and jumps up to like 7 grand before you know it so i have been looking into 6AL by msd but i have a few questions
Do these work easily on a fuel injected car?
Has anyone ever had any problems with them?
Does this take the place of your coil ?

If you've got stock computer then you've already got a rev limiter. 6250 rpms ( no matter what your tach says)

^^^^ Yup. My tach says about seven when I hit the limiter. And no, that doesn't replace your coil. It's an add on part.

The stock tach is not correct. Mine used to say almost 8k before it hit the limiter of 6250 when I had stock computer and stock tach. In some cases they are far from accurate.

I disagree, I'd consider an MSD a lot of money for very little actual real world gain. Now if you want a lower than 6250 rev limiter, need a two step, boost retard, soft start or what ever, then it may be useful to have but on a stock or mild 5.0, it is almost useless.

@ this whole thread, I need a rev limiter cause I cant control 190 HP and seeing that car hit 8 grand bwwwaaaahhhhaaaaaaaaaa didn't ever happen, Your valves would have been coming out your exhaust pipe.....

I agree with you nolife, the stock ignition systems on these cars will handle quite a bit. And on a stock mustang there is no need for ignition change. Its called learn how to drive, if you cant keep a stock mustang from going out of control you don't need a rev limiter, you need driving lessons.

you dont let off the gas when your tires unwantedly break loose?

ok lets help him...for one your tach is off

2 go buy a set of fusion zri's or the beloved kumho's ( these are tires by the way)

3 stop stompping on the gas pedal everywhere you go, people know our mustangs are fast you dont have to prove it every time you drive bro

Actually stock fox's are not that fast, so its even worse when smashing on them all the time, I am guessing this kid is pretty young.

Rev limiter would not help this er, um, "situation" it can be solved like said by others by better tires, and don't drive like shit everywhere you go. There are a lof of fast cars out there so you aren't proving anything, just looking like a punk kid. If your tach is reading anywhere near 8000 RPM's I would suggest getting an aftermarket tach. Your factory rev limiter will hit at 6250 but a limiter wont fix problems of your tires spinning and reving out, you need to learn to shift faster, or learn to control the car.

Also I would get a set of subframe connectors ASAP, NOW, YESTERDAY if its not already too late, the sounds of the way you drive you are going to tear that car apart fast especially if you get some tires that hook, get them before its too late.

Now... if the car's been tuned, the rev limiter may have been deleted already.

he's newer to the forum and to these cars so he's just asking a quesion lol you guys are sure cut throat haha.

Your not hitting 8k, you motor would self destruct if you were.. your tach is off just like others have said here. It's very common among american cars to have shitty oem gauges.

Also, the stock ignition system on the foxes are actually pretty good and don't need any updating until you dig into the motor with good parts even then it's not really needed in most cases

So basically the msd will be a waste of your money.. throw that money towards something else

I didn't rip him, I just stated that his car already has a rev limiter and the stock tach isn't very accurate.

well i have a aftermarket tach cause i still have v6 gauges in my car after the swap and they only show like 6 or something so i have an after market gauge and my heads are at the machine shop as we speak getting work because of an over rev where it floated the valves and broke a retainer clip causing a bent push rod and other stuff so the guy is putting better springs on and better retainers and jumbo locks to help keep this from happening again but i agree better tires and i plan on getting better lower control arms so maybe putting more power to the ground it wont spin so much so it wont rev so high cause now as it is i hit the gas just tap it and it goes to 6 grand like nothing idk if its cause my flywheel is maybe to small or what but ive never seen a motor rev as quick as this one and my tach i have the light set at 4500 and by the time you see it light up and look at it i see it on 7 so im just guessing it has hit 8
But the guy at the machine shop said that i need to beware now that i fixed to top end problem to an over rev the next weakest thing is gonna give which will prolly be something in my lower end because its all stock but the cam
So let me know what you think but im thinking that better lower control arms and better tires will help alot with the reving it spins like crazy unless you baby it

Also i am only 18 but i dont drive around town spinning tires everywhere yes ive done my fair share of burnouts and chirping gears but i dont do it all the time i just know when i do to it i have to be careful because of the quick reving
