Question

Car Shuts off When clutch is Engaged

My buddy has a 1995 mustang pretty much the same as mine
Anyways his car was idling at like 1500 when he got it so he back it down to about 1000
NOTE he has a e303 cam

When he set it back if hes going down the road and pushed in the clutch like 80% of the time the car will shut off
Its like it cant catch its self before it stalls
If you push in the clutch and hit the gas it will stay running
Also it wont shut off if your doing like 2000 rpm or under but anything over that it shuts off

Any ideas what this could be its driving him crazy and ive tried to research it and so has he and we cant figure out whats going on ????

First of all what procedure did he use to drop the idle from 1500 to 1000? Do a search on here of base idle procedure. There are many posts that give detailed instructions on how it is supposed to be done. Try that first. If that doesn't solve the problem, look for vacuum leaks next. He might have accidentally pulled a line off trying to adjust the idle. Any more questions you have, I will try to help.

Not to worry, its a very common mistake. If you follow the base idle info step by step, that should fix his problem. If not let us know.

ok i did it and its defiantly running a lot better i drove it for about 20 minutes and it only shut off 2 times so if defiantly better then i left it sit for a couple hours and started it and it was reving up to 1500 and down to like 800 and bouncing for like 5 minutes then it settled down and was running good and didnt stall the hole drive home

Will it take time for the computer to completely learn the idle setting ?

i could be wrong but i thing the computer needs like 50-75 miles to "re-learn" when you change something. again, i could be wrong, that is just for some reason stuck in my head...

Beings it's a cable operated speedo, I'm guessing the computer has no idea how many miles we've driven with our car. Maybe on a 2000.

Could be wrong though, but I doubt it.

If that doesn't work, it could be the TPS sensor.
