Mild build plan. Suggestions/advice?
This is the plan I've started with, I'd really appreciate inputs and advice! Thanks!
'89 GT Vert with Cobra intake, Accufab 65mm TB, Trickflow Twisted wedge heads, and probably a mild cam (suggestions?). I already have the intake and TB, planning on 70mm MAF programmed with 24# injectors, and the heads/cam are coming after the holidays. Not necessarily set on the trickflow heads, but I know a guy who's selling them for what seems like a pretty good deal. (~$900 new). After all this stuff is bolted on, also planned for a tune. Does this sound like a decent first time upgrade? I'm trying to have a plan first! Any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also, is there anything extraneous I would need since these are basically bolt on parts? Thanks again for your time. |

900 new is good, and the cobra intake doesnt line up very well to the tf heads, if I was in your shoes Id sell it and buy a used tfs-r and slap a tfs 2 cam in it

And if you did that, then you might as well pitch the 65mm tb for a 75 or 90mm depending on which TFS-R upper you would get, and then the Abaco 85 or 97mm depending on the above TB size and then you'd be getting somewhere. LOL the shit never ends.

If the cobra intake doesn't line up very well, does it need any modification?

Find the closest fel-pro intake gasket to the head that you use, and portmatch the intake and head to that.

same set up as me, but different intake manifold, and I made 321rwhp, with a hurt bottom end. but you are going to need a bigger throttle body, and good supporting mods, such as exhaust, maf, injectors, fuel pump, etc.

It already has exhaust, but will be getting headers later, otherwise bone stock....for now ;-)
MAF and injectors will probably be next realistic purchase. |

Porting the Cobra lower for the TW heads makes a nice street/strip combination. Not hard to do if you have the tools and time. Here is a guide I did for a stock lower - the same techniques are used for the Cobra lower.

Direct qoute from Fox Lake Power Products frequently asked questions section.
![]() What are the major differences between the Trick Flow Street Heat, Track Heat, and "R" intake manifolds? While the Street Heat and Track Heat intake manifolds use the same exact lower, the upper on the Track Heat has runners that are 3" shorter inside the manifold. While they look identical from the outside, the Track Heat is more suited for forced induction or higher RPM applications and the Street Heat is more suited for idle-5500 RPM applications. The "R" intake is definately more of an intake for high RPM or large cubic inch motors. The "R" intake is not designed for a 302 cubic inch motor unless it is used with 15+psi boost.

hmm, I had SH length at 15" and TH length at 13" - who's right, or what changed? I know they changed the TH length once before by an inch.

I would stick with the gasket matched Cobra intake, and go with a Trick Flow Stage 1 cam. That will make a nice mild street combo!

Dont put the MAF and injectors on next, buy them if you want, but dont install them now, until you have all the other mods, you dont need them and it will run rich
