money/motor delima

So I was hoping to Pick your guys brain. I've been saving up for my build over the last two years and i have bought a brand new set of 185 cc cnc tf heads. And i have paid About 2500 hundred so far to woody. My original plan was to go with a 347 but i'm worried at this crazy altitude that i live at and the abundance of really fast street cars that it's not gunna be enough. Plus I have a 400 hp big turbo srt4 as a daily driver and I'll be pissed if my build car looses to my daily. I'd like to go for a turbo 408. I have about enough money to pay the difference on the 408 and a turbo kit. But i'll be broke and dragging on the fuel side and an intake and maf. I also have a sick nitrous kit so i could go nitrous 408 and be able to buy everything to get it running right a away. what do u guys think? Also take into account that i do live at like 6000ft and we have a terrible track that's closed like all the time so all of our racing is done on a long privately owned road.(not Ideal I know but better than the kids that race on the freeway. I'm mostely wanting a car that will trap really high and hang with the big boys out here.

Why not turbo 347? That should get the job done.

Or I guess nitrous 347 even, if you already have the stuff. You can shorten that e.t. in you suspension work, no doubt.

Also, stock or aftermarket block? That's always a deciding factor in BIG numbers

I didn't want to do turbo 347 cause i can't afford an after market block. I will be dumping money into suspension as i get it but like i said chasing et doesn't do anything for me cause well our track is horrible and litteraly never open. It may not even re open this next spring.

In words less blunt than Mustank would say, but with the same meaning... Can you afford to do it twice? If the project has to sit a little longer to complete it, than so be it. Rush it and take shortcuts and you'll be mad at yourself. Ask me how many parts I've replaced and rereplaced on my car.

Go with the 408, you'll get a better block and more torque. I looooooove my 408 and I'll never go back to a 302 based motor ever again .

move to somewhere lower...lol the only way to make power at that high of elevation is a power adder and from what i hear turbo or blower is the best for that. i would highly reccomend the aftermarket block... even if its just the shp block... now if you were to decide to build a 408,427 exc... would he use your money twards that or would he charge you restocking fees exc....

I spoke to him and he said that it wouldnt be a problem at all to upgrade since nothing have been built so I think i'm gunna let it rip on the 408 and a turbo kit. Been looking a hp. And sell my nitrous kit and 302 and some other misc stuff to start getting my fuel stuff and maf and inj. This altitude just sucks balls. Stock fox's are mid 15's out here all day And if I have a line up on a 150 dollar nice stock t56 out of wrecked ls1 fbody should i bite on it?

A 408 is a solid 351 block right? What is the problem here? Should be a 130 car with just about any turbo and top end combo.

If the car already has a good running 5.0 in it, just throw your TF heads and a turbo on it until you can afford to build a better bottom end. That will be pretty good power for now. If not, just find a cheap 5.0 and put in it with the heads and turbo, and then build the other motor as money permits. I would personally build a big bore 347 with an aftermarket block, and boost that. That way, you can still use the TF heads. A big bore 347 with a turbo will make more than enough power for a fun street car.

When I had my 94, I had a 148k mile stock bottom end, AFR 165 heads, F-cam, GT40 intake, and a D1SC Procharger, and it made 506 RWHP & 510 RWTQ on 11.7 psi. It still had all stock fuel system except Walbro 255 HP intank pump, and 60lb injectors. It was plenty for me on the street. When you send 315/35/17 BF drag radials up in smoke at 60 mph in 3rd gear by just punching it, that is enough for me for a street car.
