86 titling problems

i bought a mustang from a buddy because he needed money to get to minn for a surgery at the mayo clinic. i paid 800 for it. the title is "mutilated" its an OK title and the date was scribbled a little.

i live in MO and the title isnt in my buddys name its a friend of his that owed him money so he took the car instead. i cant get ahold of the other guy and my friend wont be recovering for a long time so his help isnt happening either.

any ideas to get a title? ive been told few option are abbondoned or mechanics lean titles but dont know how to do that. any suggestions, or should i just part it out?

thank you

well where im from you can go to the dmv and ask them about it, they have all the answers its pretty simple really.... i mean if the title itself looks mangled then bring it to them with a bill of sale explain to them about the situation and theyll point you in the direction you need to go....and hell if you decide to part it out let me know i got an 81 converted to an 88 but the interior is still 95 % 81 and could use a few things lol

And hope all is well with your buddy. It is a damn good Hospital here. I assume he went to Rochester and not one of the satelite clinics.

generally speaking you can find "title guys" that can recover the title for you in a few days for about $300. Had to do that on an old LeMans I had

he went there because his doc said it was the best so i assume its the good one. he made it back and seems ok so must have been a good one.

i guess i never have asked where to go from here at the dmv. they have just said they cant take it and thats been that. i guess ill go back and ask more ?s. the only one i did ask was a new guy and i had been there an hour and he said you can take another number and wait for the next available person, i didnt feel like sitting there for another hour so i left

I too live in MO, the DMV won't have many solutions for you besides to go to the courts. But...in MO you can call your local State Trooper HQ and explain to them the situation and they can get you the title signed or a new one for no charge. I had to do that on a CRX I had. Where exactly do you live so I can tell you what Troop you have? I have Troop C over here.

When I bought my mustang the title was signed over to the guy I bought it from, but it was never taken for the change. I had to cross out his info, and put my info in thw buyer fields. I also had to get a dated statement from the guy who's name was originally printed on the title explaining why there was a mistake. I knew the guy so I wrote the letter myself and signed it. But that was here in Texas. Don't tell anybody lol

Your HP is full of bs. Lol. I was in the same situation with a CRX and they took care of it just fine. Do you have the full name of the guy that title is in? If so, go to Intellus and do a background search on him to get all current info. It only costs a couple bucks and its worth it. I did it and it worked great for my current mustang. This process is not illegal and its the cheapest way to solve your problem.
