So why did you even put the 460 as an option then? If you are concerned about fuel economy you better stick to a 302.

do you want to do a blown motor or a naturally aspirated motor?

blown: go with a 302 and get a vortech, you will get your 500 HP (you will get better gas mileage with this set up)

N/A: Go with the 351 and stroke it! 393 or 408 (I get about 12 MPG in the city with my 351, but that is partially b/c of the cam)

blown motor is always an option...and i put the 460 in as an option becuase it still is..i said its a gas guzzler but i'll deal..and i'll deffinatly stick to either flowmasters or SLP's loudmouth...magnaflows suck in my opinion...also im rlly thinking of going with a 347, 351, 408 or 460...and a vortech supercharger would porbably be an addition to one of those...

I voted for the 460 because I have rode in a few foxbodys with em and all of them were insane. I love the torque with a big block.

well do you guys recommend getting a hole new block (460ci)..or rebuilding one...if rebuilding it, then wich ford has the best 460 in it? cuz i have a 89 f250 w/ a 460 in it..needs alot of work to be fresh, but it still makes that 5,500lbs truck jump..could i just use that (frames bout to snap anyways...used to be a beach truck...cape cods sea salt kills frames).. and like strip it and rebuild it...and maybe have the 460 bore out...if my calculations are correct...a 474ci...? but i've been told that the cylinder walls on these pick-ups engines are thin to begin with...and i know were there is a couple 460's out of the older lincoln cars (the boats)...i guess those are better blocks...im only takin this root cuz i dont have the money to land a new 460 carte motor right now...

well if u have a good bit of money like darrell said there is no replacement for displacement. however the 460 is a awesome motor, but i would use a 429 i mean they are basically the same thing except the 460 has a bigger bore i believe but the 429 is a little more available. but those things stock came wit close to 500 lbft of torque. that alone will get u into the low 12's. than some heads a nasty cam say hello to mid 10s. jmo u will need an almost bullit proof tranny though, a c6 for auto or a 4 speed toploader.

+1... I say unless you can get a killer deal on a small block, if you're buying a block or motor- go biggest you can get your hands on that will fit.... you'll be happy in the long run with the power

429 and 460 both share a 4.362 bore. A 429 has a 3.59 stroke and a 460 has a 3.85 stroke.

yeah...well i rlly dont have the money to go land a crate motor 429 or 460...and a 429 is more performance based anyways, so it will be more expensive to land one over a 460...and i have one in my 89-f250 (a 460) and i've heard the cylinder walls are thin, so not good to use for high horsepower...i know were there some older early 70's 460 in some lincolns, and i guess there cylinder walls are much thicker..and come stock with like 375hp..and i could just rebuild it and bore it or stroke it out to 514ci!!!! that would be nice..
