347 build opinions

here's what i'm thinking so far:

347 obviously
AFR 185s or TW 185s
Comp XE274 w/ 1:7 rockers
Edelbrock Performer RPM intake
750 carb
and some long tubes

a friend of mine from foureyedpride.com has desktop dyno 5 and plugged the numbers in for me and came out with just shy of 400hp and just over 400tq. regardless of what the combo actually puts out, that's about the best numbers i could get out of my numerous build ideas.

the issue i'm having though is i can't chose pistons. i know the valve geometry of TW heads is an important factor in pistons but i don't know what i'm looking for there. any help? and give me some general opinions on this combo please. you guys are awesome.

I think just about every 347 kit has the option to use pistons with tf valve reliefs
tf185s arent close to the same category as the afr 185s, tf185s kill them
dont spend the money on a 347 if youre gona put a shit cam in it. Custom or nada. Heads aint on the car yet so not like youre spending extra time swapping valve springs

desktop dyno is crap...

but on a sidenote. If you want to save some money... I can sell you my 347. I want to pull it out and replace it with a boss block 302.

If you are interested at all, PM me

really? the dude that hooked me up with some comparisons said is engine builder swears by desktop dyno. says actual builds end up being not too far off. either way, the numbers might be wrong but it seems like a good comparison tool

as for your stroker... idk man, even though this is a "budget" build, i'm lookin for new parts. a blank slate if you will. thanks for the offer though man. i might pm you at some point if i take a further interest.

you would be silly not to consider it as your FIRST course of action...

I completely understand the desire to build your own engine, and know everything that is in it, or everything that is done to it. However, with the limited amount of miles on my engine (less than 3k on the shortblock, less than 1500 on the heads and cam) It is basically brand new.

I can also give you a piece by piece break down of everything that is in the engine. Along with pictures of when it was being assembled.

Bottom line is that you would be getting damn near $7500 worth of running, very very low mileage engine... for ~ $4k

ahhh, i can't afford a $4k engine. i mean, i can, but you know how it is... i want to build something for myself from the ground up. i want something me, my girl, and lil boy can enjoy together. i want to see my boy's face when we start it up for the first time knowing that he helped make it run.

ok, enough touchy feely shit. where's a good starting point for a cam? i plan on getting ahold of comp cams in the future and i'd like a good place to start.

I found this a few days ago,, I'm learning all this as well. Here is a link for your compression height figures and they also have a calculator to figure anything you need to know, Keith Black:United Engine & Machine Co. Incorporated

331 ARE you high? go 347 or don't build a stroker!

What happened to Jay Allen?

If he really is not around then my next best would be Ed Curtis

Jay's been having health issues for a long time now. I haven't really heard much lately, but I also haven't been on his forum in a while. Last I checked he was still out which was about a month ago. I believe it was a tumor on the pituitary gland and possibly other issues as well. You can probably find out more on SBFTech if you wanted more info because that's where I saw him post the most and there's a few people on there that seem to know him personally.
