Did they ever work? If so did they both stop working at the same time?

This is for a 93, but I'm guessing that yours should still be the same. It's a 'five wire reversal rests at ground' system so make sure your grounds are good too. Hell, maybe both motors happen to be shot. Get a meter out and print this off and go to town.

It would be more work to make them manual than to fix yours. Take of the drivers side window switches. There will be a wire that gets 12v when you press up, and another wire when you press down. Most likely its your motors though.

Depends on the regulator. If it has the input for the window crank then all you have to do is remove the drive gear from the motor. If it doesn't have it then you'll need the regulator from a manual car. They made them for those years so you should be able to hunt them down. To get the power ones to work you'll need a power probe or a multimeter. Use that diagram that faststang posted and check your wires. All of them should be ground at rest except your power input to the switch. When you push a rocker one way, you should have power on one side and ground on the other. There's a lot of things that can go wrong with a window circuit. I've seen the grounds to the switch go bad, and the power lost to the switch more often than not. Sometimes the contacts in the switch get burned out and you;ll have power and ground at the inputs and nothing out. If the switches work fine, then what I do is unplug the switches and feed power to the motor directly. There's only 2 motor wires, feed power and ground one way and the window goes up, reverse them and the window goes down. That is all the switches do, and there are no relays in the circuit.
There should also be breakers and not fuses for the window circuit. They are rectangular metal cases that plug in like a fuse and will pop if there's an issue and then reset when they cool down. Those could be bad also, but only if you're not getting any input into the switch. This may not be the case for your car, but it is for a lot of cars and I haven't worked on a window circuit on a sn-95 car in a long time, so double check your owners manual and fuse box. |
