1/4 mile times
Hey everybody, I am new to the forum but I have been a mustang owner for about 6 years (I have a mostly original '65 vert). On the 17th I will be driving from Tennessee to New Mexico to trade my 1978 Datsun 280z for a 1990 Mustang GT hatch that has had a lot of work done to it (balance/blueprinted, aluminum heads/intake, roller cam and rockers, full exhaust, larger injectors and throttle body, Borg Warner T-5, 3.73 gears, and a full aftermarket suspension setup...just to name a few things
).I am very excited for the trade, so I figured I would ask what 1/4mile times other people are seeing with similar upgrades. The current owner says it makes about 300rwhp but I am not sure about the torque numbers. So with all of that being said, I would love to see some numbers from you guys driving similar cars! Thanks in advance! |

Not saying you haven't done your research already, but get the EXACT mod list on here and we can give you a better idea if you are getting a good deal. Also, what is your 280 worth? Some Mustang owners have an inflated value of what their car is really worth and the power it puts down. Maybe we could save you from a possible mistake.
And for God's sake, change your avatar. I hope you are a chic

Thank you for the straight answer.
And I don't have the time to type up each specific mod but i'll touch on a few other key upgrades. It has a very large aluminum radiator (3" thick) with an electric fan setup, mandrel bent CAI, underdrive pulleys, 130-amp alternator, bassani x-pipe with hi-flow cats, ceramic coated shorties, 2.5" magnaflow from the X-pipe back, chrome moly upper and forged steel control arms, 4-point k-member, ported edelbrock intake, chrome moly rings, hyperutectic pistons (9.2:1 cr), chrome moly drive shaft, ford racing king cobra clutch, adjustable HD clutch cable assembly from Maximum Motorsports, and a hurst super competition short throw shifter. There are many more mods but to save myself some time I just put some of the more noteworthy ones in this. The mustang also had a ground up restoration a few years ago and has been in New Mexico most of the time since then (no rust! ). The engine and trans have 20k on them and everything else besides the body has less than 20k (body has 174k). I believe it will be a good trade, my Z was restored last year and looks beautiful, but it has a high mileage motor which probably puts it at around $6500 total worth if I found the right buyer (which never happens). Without the trade I would probably not get anything over $5000 cash for it because enthusiasts want either a project or completed car and mine is inbetween. So basically my best bet would be to trade for this car that I love so that I wouldn't have to sell the Z to someone who won't know how to take care of it.Oh, I forgot to mention that I have a friend in NM that drives an 01 Cobra and he said the mustang I am trading for is nearly flawless. |

Still can't tell much from that. Is it a 302, 306, 331, 347????? What aluminum heads are on it? What cam does it have?

It is a 302 with Edelbrock Performer 5.0 aluminum heads with 1.90 intake and 1.60 exhaust. The cam is a B303 with 1.72 roller rockers, which gives .514 lift & 284 degrees advertised duration.

I have the same heads/cam package and a shop around here used to offer that exact setup to customers and with 3:73's and slicks they ran a 12.10 as their best pass with it. Stock weight too.
