Fuel pump wine fluctuates/ Idle surge

Hey guys,

I've looked up quite a bit of info on the fuel pump thing and have found that most wine when they are dying. Mine has a new 255 lph fuel pump and it primes when starting, starts fine, wines just as loud when running, the gets quieter to where I can almost not here it, then louder, and repeats for as long as I'm driving it. I read that the 255's sometimes always wine, but what would cause it to be intermittent in its wining?

Now to my Idle surge. Only happens on start up whether its warmed up or cold from 500 to 1500 for maybe 5 minutes. I read the sticky about how to go about solving issues with idle surges, but since mine is only happening when its first started and never after I've been driving do you think the IAB would be the culprit? Or could it still be an issue with the tps, or salt and pepper shakers?

Do what the sticky says anyway. It won't hurt anything and will rule all those out if it continues.

Does the whining loudness track with indicated voltage? I have a t-rex booster and one of the two is loud as hell at higher voltage, more when I first start the car too when the stock 2g alternator is cold and putting out the most voltage but as soon as I turn on the headlights and/or the car warms a little and the idle drops, it quiets down. Been that way for years. If your voltage indicated is not fluctuating much but the FP noise still is, do a quick check of your wiring and connections, maybe there is some corrosion.

About your idle. I'm no EEC4 guru but when in open loop and cold, there is more fuel added, maybe that amount is just enough mixed with your other sensor slop to throw things out of whack. Once it warms up and goes closed loop, the EEC4 can maintain the idle better.

I was told that the walbro 255lb were loud as hell but after installing mine it was no more louder then my stock pump. Have you checked your fuel pressure ? maybe you got a bad pump. It wouldnt be the first time a new part was bad right out of the box or fail with in a short period of time

Thanks guys! I will go through the procedures to test the surge issue. As for the fuel pump it really confuses me with the constant fluctuating wine. I don't think there is a pressure gauge for the fuel, but it seems to be working fine. That would suck if it was one of the new ones that goes real quick.

There is no pressure gauge, you have to hook one up to the scrader valve to check it.
