Time to get a corvette or keep driving the mustang?

I want a corvette bad. I went back to college and now make about 700 a month. I have minor expenses. If I put the loan and insurance in my dads name it will be around 70.00 a month on a 97. I have 5,000 saved for a down payment. The 1997 attracted me because of the price. I looked at 1999's in person. What is the difference if any between a 97-2003 besides roof options?

I currently drive a 1994 mustang gt vert. I drive about 25 miles at a time. My house is 9 miles from my job and my job and house are around 25 from my school. The mustang has 110k miles on it so I am looking for something else with less.

I am wondering up keep wise what am I looking at compared to my mustang? I'm talking oil changes, belts, tires, breaks, inspections, LABOR, that type of stuff? What kind of average upkeep occurs between 55 and 100k miles? What type of miles should I look for? On average what kind of mileage can I get before major repairs can be done?

My dad had a Cadillac seville and had tons of labor charges. He could only take it to a Cadillac dealer and they replaced a lot and everything was computer related. He finally sold in due to the fact every repair bill was in excess of 1,000.00. I don't want this type of issue. Im hoping a corvette is close to my mustang repair price wise.

I want one so bad its not even funny. Sure my mustang is cool it has cobra r rims, super stereo, full exhaust but its still not a vett.

Thanks for any help in advance :-)

corvette maintenance prices will be insane.. it will be hard to do alot of the work by yourself too because everything is in such close quarters on the vette.. i say just save your money and maybe even get something nicer in a few years

What do you mean its just not a Vette? I could rip you a new one all day just for sayin that but I wont.. I have two questions for you to answer. If you answer both questions yes then its time for you to get a Vette.

OK here goes..

Are you over 40?

Is your cock 4 inches or less when erect?

If you answered yes to both of those questions you are hereby ordered by the members of Modded Mustangs to sell your Mustang and buy a Corvette...

Man, do whatever you want to do, but don't overextend yourself. I'm guessing that since you just finished school that you are pretty young. My advice to you is to stay as far away from debt as possible! You're going have student loans pop up pretty soon!

I know how you feel! Once I got a good job and got my first raise the first thing I did was by a new ride...and it was a big mistake! I thought I had a financial plan, but things just kept coming up.

And the $70.00 a month...is that for the payment AND insurance? I know it will be in your dads name and all, but that still sounds unusually cheap.

Like I said, do what you want and have fun, but be smart! Financial problems usually lead to hard times in life that can be avoided.

Wow...a lot of GM hatred here! Jeezus, sounds like a Mustang forum or somethin!
Anywho...I would rock a C6 Z06 in a heartbeat! But as far as the "old man" thing....yeah, that pisses me off too.......there's a 60-something year old dude in my town that drives a brand new Z06, and every time I get up next to him at the light I play with my throttle to see if he wants to go....and he just smiles and waves...then takes off at the light doin 10MPH!

Vettes are nice, but be sure you can afford the upkeep on one.
My older brother has owned about six in my life time, but he always had a daily driver other than his vettes.[ always had a good job, that really helps ]
Good luck on whatever you decide to do.
Do as much research as you can about Vettes & their upkeep.
Find the best model years that you can afford & best suits you.

these guys are all mustang men, the hell wud u ask that on here for expecting to get a non-biased answer?

but truthfully it all depends on wut u wanna do wit ur car. i wud like a vette and wud be happy to smoke all these kids ^^^^ wit it. but it wudnt be all that fun when u realize what it costs, not only to buy but to maintain as well. and modifying it wudnt be as fun because when u show ppl wut u did, they dont notice cuz u got a freakin 6.-L engine and are already makin almost 400 horsies.

if ur a tuner (like these guys, whether they accept it or not) then u shud keep ur mustang cuz its one of those cars that u can find parts for anywhere. if ur jus a casual car guy (like women) then by all means get the fastest thing u can find and hope u dont crash it on the way home

I have a 91 stang and i can tell ya that parts for a mustang are much cheaper then a vette. my dad has 78 vette that he just put a 502 in it. every part for that car is over priced .dont get me wrong its fast , it just seems that every part he needs starts out at 300 dollars or higher, and it doesnt sound like you make enough money to keep a car like that running and looking good.

my car runs me about $245 (insurance+car payment) a month with the insurance in mommys name. I only make $1200 a month if the weather cooperates. its an 1988 it will be paid off when the car is 20 years old (2008) bought it in oct 2006. I dont think you will get 70 bucks a month for insurance on a vette. unless it has a briggs and stratton 8hp engine + airbags.
