electrical problem

anyone else have a problem with the charging systems. dosen't seem to get enough juice at idle with accesories on. checked for voltage drop at alternator battery and starter didn't get more than 0.1 v at either the ground side or the positve side. i can't use a/c at night with lights on and electric fan running car will stall at stops. everything is new cables, alt, battery, starter. i know these cars have problems with this but its annoying. when i replaced the alt i did the conversion to the 95 body style 130a alt. still only helped some. some insight would be great thanks.

Do you have an underdrive pully on the alternator?
It should not stall. At idle or other conditions where the alt can not make the required power, the system voltage drops and the battery will pick up the load. When RPM comes back up and alt output voltage and current gets higher then the battery, the car will "run" from the alt and the battery will charge back up. Now a lot of these small charge and discharge cycles will severly reduce battery life down to typically 2 years max (ask anyone with a few large high current stereo amps) but again, the car should not stall. Maybe your electric fan is extremely large?

I would have the alternator and battery checked again. AutoZone or equivelent will check both for free. Still does not explain the stalling though, you would have to have extremely low voltage for the car to stall and if your charging system/battery was that bad, you would notice more then just stalling at a red light with the AC running, it would be hard to start, other lights would dim in sequence with the flashers or turnsignals, the voltmeter would be bouncing around a lot, random alternator warning light etc... Basicially more indications of a weak or faulty voltage regulator /alternator or weak battery then just stalling.

i work on cars all day long but this is driving me nuts. i have tested the battery and alt they are ok. the volt gauge does bounce when the turn signals are put on. as for the fan its a black magic fan for these cars. the a/c system is aftermarket from 50 resto

Did you load test the alt and battery or just measure voltage? Typically, larger then normal swings with volt gauge indicate the battery is weak or a connection to the battery is weak. Maybe you have a corroded connection where all of the postive wires are attached to each other at the solenoid stud or the battery ground is bad? The other problem that causes weird issues is the bridge recitfier inside the voltage regulator. With a bad or leaking recitifier, the voltage output can appear normal but only half the current capability.

Good luck.

EDIT-->
Sorry, I just now re read your first post where you stated you have a new battery, alt, and cables.

now that you mentioned common connection i have relocated all the wiring on the driver side into the fender well area. i then used a stereo distribution block to separate power to battery, solenoid, etc... think i'll pull that apart and check those connections. thanks i'll keep you posted
