87 GT running way too rich?

Hello,

I have an 87 GT. when I put the new engine in it. I converted it over to mass air. The guy that I had tune it up, put some type of volt meter or whatever on the side next to the mass air sensor. it has a digital number that is shown, and has a switch that says adjust or direct. it also has a switch that you can stick a small screw driver into in order to to make the car run lean or more rich.

when at idle the number with be around 97 to 100. However I know nothing about his or even how to play with it.

I dont run cats, but my car is running super rich. I cant even take it around the block without getting out of my car and smelling like gas.

anyone know how I can fix this.

I'm in the same boat as SDHW44. Mine's a '91.
Can that be done without getting a tune? Is repositioning the distributor possible on "newer" powertrains?
