Went to the Mechanic

Hey guys I just got back from the mechanic. We put the car up on the lift and checked out everything, turns out the guy I bought from did a crap job putting the car together. The headers look glued (and not meant for a stang), the undrcarriage has holes and rust, and other vices. Oh well at least it runs. I need to buy an entire aftermarket exhaust system. I am looking for low price, loud, and most importantly, catted with polished tips. The car does not have afr heads, they are cast iron and probably stock. It might have an e-cam. Don't know about the vacuum leak but ill check. The radiator is also not for a Mustang but it is 3-core and will hold up. The trans has issues but works so im keeping it for now. The car is kinda a mess but ill just drive it till it needs work. Thanks for all the help so far and im sure im gonna keep posting lol. But for the exhaust, does anyone have any ideas? It needs to be loud and PASS EMISSIONS. And no, no cheating (putting cats on and then taking them off, etc. my mechanic knows). Thanks!

Performancepeddler.com has good prices on direct fit 2.5 or 2.25 inch Magnaflow stainless H-pipes with high flow cats. I bought a 2.5 one from them a few years ago and still going and I pass emissions with no problem. Depending on how much you want to spend, check Summits catback prices, they have a house brand that is decent but the polished tips are about $50-100 more. Performancepeddler may have good prices on catbacks too, not sure. For headers, I've had good luck with BBK shorties, decent price, built well and will last a long time. I'd pay more for the ceramic coated ones if you plan on keeping the car for more than a few years.

Does you fan at least have a shroud? It might cool great now but its not summer yet.

Why do all the young guys want loud exhaust? I'd do anything for mine to be quieter, and not affect performance.

check the exhaust sticky if you havent already, it will give you a good idea of different set ups. Im # 117 lol. Also the more mods you do to your engine to increase horse power the louder your exhaust is going to be. Exhaust clip thread, Post clips of your set up

Btw i have long tubes. I REALLY dont want to get rid of them because they sound sick and they add a lot of power. However I need to replace the headers anyway cuz these are rusted. Are short tubes really that bad? And thanks for the help so far

I like my shorties and there much better then having the stock ones. I dont know if your really gaining all that much HP on a stock engine with your long tubes.

which is exactly why I opted for SLP powerflows. its a wide bodied, straight through design, but is quiet and smooth.

so enjoyable!

Does anyone know of any systems that work with long tubes? And how would equal length shorties do as far as hp gains from scavenging, and sound? Will they pass emissions easier than LTs? Do they work with shorty exhaust kits? Thanks!

ive heard the equal length are a pain in the ass with clearance issues and such. They do sell short midpipes with cats to be used with long tube headers

My old equal lengths rubbed the steering column when I put them in.

Alright thanks a lot I also finally found some, its a catted shorty h from americanmuscle for only 350. My problem now is that the headers I want have a 3in collector (the only 2.5s are 300+ dollars and these are 140 at summit) and the rest of the exhaust system has 2.5. How can I fix that? Haha thanks. Heres what I am looking at for a setup right now:
Flowtech 12104FLT - FlowTech Headers - Overview - SummitRacing.com
http://www.americanmuscle.com/bbk-shorty-h-foxbody.html
http://www.americanmuscle.com/slp-lo...-86-93-lx.html

I'm tryin to keep it all under $1000 and still pass emissions

also keep in mind that most mustang mid pipes have a ball in socket conection so if the mid pipe you buy has a different conection then the flanged headers then the mid pipe will have to be modded but shouldnt be a big deal for an exhaust shop
