computer problem

I have a 1984 ford mustang 302, engine is from a 1977 ford truck with the non H.O. firing order. What would be a good engine computer. it has a t5 transmission in it now, perfer mass air, but would run speed density if i had to.

If you have a HO computer, and NON HO motor cant you just swap the firing order on the dist cap? If not you can get computer from a cougar, grand marquis, thunderbird, ford LTD, pretty much any car with a non HO 302 i would imagine would work. If you have a carbed car which i think a 84 was then you cant use a FI computer. Id look for a computer from one of the cars i listed from 79-85.

You would be much better off swapping in an HO cam and changing the firing order to the HO. For a Manual car look for an A9L which is a MAF 5 speed computer. That will only work with the HO cam/firing order swap though.

Like mentioned the 84 was carb'd. I'm assuming you know this already and have a donor EFI setup and are missing a computer?

I was told that a crankshaft and camshaft have to be changed to be a H.O. but if just the camshaft has to be changed and move wires around i will do that. it does have the t5 in it and it was a carb car just want fuel injection now i was thinking of using the A9L computer.

Firing order can be changed by moving the injector wires and spark plug wires. What are the specs on the engine - is it pretty much stock, or does it have any mods on it?

Cam needs to have the correct firing order too.

Nope, there's no difference in the crank between a non-ho and an ho engine. If you put in any aftermarket performance cam or a stock ho cam in and an A9L, you'll be good to go.
