Help with 88 gt non starting issue
I started my car last week to let it warm up, it ran for 10-15 mins, i went in to grab my phone, i heard the car die. I go back out try to start it it runs rough, give it gas it dies. I decided to go ahead and change the fuel pump and fuel filter, hadnt done it yet. Now it turns over, you crank it 4x, it starts for 10 secs, dies, crank 4x, starts runs 10 secs, dies. after 2 or 3 times, it won't start anymore. i hadn't changed anything on the car, was driving fine, just died., Any help would be greatly appreciated. Tomorrow i'm gonna clean iac, and replace coil., thought i might replace my key switch too, seems lose.

well it could be a the pick up coil, pip, in the distrubutor. do a little search on it

no codes, no check engine light, i'm going to change the coil tomorrow., and my ignition switch was tampered with[attempted theft], about a year ago.,

sounds like how my car ran when the MAF sensor connector was loose. but im not sure about speed density setups....

You scanned for codes? Just because they don't flash doesn't mean they don't exist. Don't change the pump and the filter until you know whats wrong. Thats setting yourself up for failure. Why does everyone think the fuel filter solves everything?

Put a fuel pressure gauge on it and watch it when it stalls. See if maybe you're losing fuel. Def don't just start throwing parts at it.
Another thing you can try is to check for spark when it won't start. You need to isolate the issue to either a fuel or an ignition problem before you do anything else. |

more than the fuel filter i always get "probably water in the gas tank". which basically means "i dont really kno..."

i already had plans to upgrade the fuel pump, was running a stock pump on the fresh 306, i did switch it over to the MAF setup., and i would never install a fuel pump and not change the filter

What is the fuel pressure when the car dies? Does it have spark when it dies? Is there a performance chip in the computer?
FYI, your plan is going to cost you a bunch of money. Diagnose the problem and then fix the problem. Don't just throw parts at it until it is fixed. All that will do is cost you time and money.

ill check the fuel pump relay. someone needed my fuel pressure guage more than me, apparently, so i have to go get a new one, yes there is spark when it dies

the same thing happen to me, found out my fuel gauge was off and it had no fuel, yea you feel like an idiot but hey now you know.Try some gas.

Check your fuse linkage coming from off the yellow wire on the solenoid next to the coil, That goes to the computer and it then tell the computer to give spark to the coil. Mine to a shit on me bout 7 hours ago.

I finally got it running, the fuel pump wasnt pumping?, i submerged it in fuel,and it now works fine.I let it run for about 30 mins, does fine, now i have about two days of reassembly to get to drive it. thanx again for the help
