Need Help. Car stalls.
Hi, I'm new to the site but I have been reading threads here for a while. I have an 89 lx hatch thats have some problems running. Heres some background info:
I bought the car two years ago, the thing is nice (will have pics soon), except for some reason the kid I bought it from had swapped the mass air for speed density. it ran good with some idle surge issues which i fixed by adjusting the idle on the car. So far all the car has done to it is boltons like shorty headers back to exhaust, (no cats). A mild ford racing cam, subframe connectors, short throw shifter and a 95amp alternator. It also has an inline T-rex (vortech) fuel pump (used to be supercharged by previous owner). Ok, the thing ran good for like 2 months, then one day it dies on me like the fuel cutout. It wouldn't start back up so I got it towed. Next day it started but died right after it warmed up, which it consistently does now. So car still starts and runs but only until it gets warm. Here are some details: The car runs great when cold but you can tell when it's going to die. The idle is everywhere and going up and down very fast for like 5 minutes until the revs get so low that it cuts out when surging down. Do I have a fuel, ignition, or compression problem??? I already tried pulling the codes but I guess the thing isnt wired right because I bought the OBD 1 tester and it didnt give me any codes or react normally. I had the sound tester function on and as the process began it just held a constant sound after all the relays started clicking it stood that way until I unplugged it. Any suggestions or where should I begin troubleshooting and how. I am very mechanically inclined and will not let a mechanic do any work on my project unless its internal engine stuff. What tools do I need. If anybody has had this problem please let me know, I'd rather find the source right away before having to test and buy all the testing tools. Thanks for any input. replace your ignition module, its bolted to the side of the distributor.

I would start there as well. When they get hot they stop working. Something to do with the resistors inside them. Then when they cool off.. Ignition.

Car Stalls.
Ok. So just the electronic ignition module mounted on the front of the distributor is what I should replace then? I read a lot about those things going. Thanks for the help guys will try that first since they're a pretty cheap part anyway.
