clearing headers

so my plug boot had been too close to my header and now the boot is toast. you can see the white spot on the leftmost exhaust in the pic where the boot has been shorting. ive heard that the best way is to heat the pipe with a torch till its cherry red and then dent it in right in that spot, but im afraid due to the rust/age it'll break or something.

suggestions?

try a 90* boot on that wire, and find a way to hold it so it wont move and lay on the header

Those work great, I had them on my other mustang and never burned a wire after that.
