Mac dumps or full exhaust?

I have a 306, 10:1 comp, 466 lift cam, and stock heads. Will I make more power with a full exhaust out to the rear bumper or should I just stick with a mac h pipe and the mac muffler to dumps before the Axle. Will I gain torque or horsepower if I have more back pressure?

Thanks

Jon

I dont think you will gain a noticeable amount of anything but sound from tailpipes to dumps....I have dumps and love them, but i didnt notice any HP or TQ gains. I do love the sound though. I have Mac LTs, Mac off road h pipe, and flowmaster 40 series dumped! Great sound.

i rather have the exhaust going out at the bumper. sounds more defined IMO and you wont get that exhaust fumes in your car as much.

plus i like the look with the tips

I will admit, while stopped at a long stoplight, i will smell fumes, but hell i love the smell. but while driving, even at low speeds, i dont smell a thing.

Dumps are more of a preference thing, do you want people to see your tailpipes or not, do you want your car to be a bit louder? You really wont gain anything from it, just sound.

I would not even say it is louder but more of a deeper rumble. I went to dumps because the previous owner did a number on the tail pipes and they were smacking around. I have a new H pipe with cats and a new Flowmaster cat back sitting here waiting to be installed. I'll eventually install them but probably not until my emmissions and inspection is due

Hey, everyone, well within the next few weeks im planning on purchasing a new exhaust and adding some 3:73 gears, but I've got a question that goes along with this topic

First, my daily drive includes going over some pretty high speed bumps, and nothing as of now hits the speed bumps, but if i decide to, i might purchase the Mac Pro-dumps, my question is, has anybody have any issues with their dumps(lol) touching speedbumps or driveways?

Second, either way im getting new mid pipes, but whats the difference between high flow catalytic pipes from others, and if theres any pros or cons with the hfc pipes

I can't comment on the height because my rear control arms are the lowest thing in my car. They are a few inches lower then stock ones were and way lower then my dumps.
As for my dumps? To some this may sound like a rig job but it works and looks decent.
I used the old mangled Flowmaster 2.5 inch tail pipes I took off and cut my dumps from them. I cut a piece out just where there was some curve and cut at an angle so they have the discharge angle I was looking for. If you have an old 2.5 inch tailpipe and a hacksaw, it may be worth the try.

As for the cats? I got a Magnaflow 93338 2.5 H-Pipe with cats for $265 but like I stated in an earlier post, they are not installed yet so I can not comment on the fit quality or how well they flow.

Some people pay crazy amounts of money for the little dump off the muffler. I got mine for 5 bucks from a muffler shop. They look good too. They are a 90* angle and i love them!

There is a difference. Without the dumps, it sounds like it does with the tailpipes on but a lot louder and a bit more defined (more noticeable noise from each individual pipe and not a single "combined" tone), which you probably have now with your setup.
The addition of turn downs change that to a lower rumble that is a little quieter inside and out.
I think I liked the cut off and no turn down sound better but I did not like that it was directed straight towards the gas tank and it was a little too loud in the car for extended 1800-2200 rpm driving.

I have dumps ran on mine. And I love the sound. About the ride height my old pipes hit more than my dumps and they were stock. Stock mustang pipes dont sit even...or at least on a 95 gt they dont. I had them even it up when they put my dumps on. No problems so far. P.S. You will LOVE the 3.73 gears.

Does not sound even close to a car with tail pipes. It sounds and smells like shit with no tail pipes or dumps..

Maybe my description is not perfect but I notice more of a tone difference between no dumps and dumps then with tailpipes and no tail pipes. Volume is much different though.
Now take off the mufflers and I totally agree with the "sounds like shit".

Too each his own I guess.
