Clock Spring Replacement/Car Issues

Ok my mechanic told me today just how effed up my car is. The trunk wouldn't open. Turns out that its not even for a fox body. That would be why the key doesn't work. There's a trunk actuator button in the glove compartment, which of course doesn't work either. Does every fox have one? Then, the rear brake light was out. I couldn't figure out how to change the bulb without hurting the car. He says thats because theres no wiring. Yeah you read that right. NO WIRING! Its just gone....all of it. Like someone ripped it all out! Its insane. I can't believe I bought this car. So the biggest problem at the moment is my airbag and cruise control and horn don't work, and it appears that the clock spring is shot. My mechanic can't find a replacement, and neither can I. Does anyone know where to get a clock spring for a 1992 Mustang LX? My parents won't let me drive it 'till thats fixed....so I have to have the clock spring (I just can't find one). Can anyone make any suggestions? Help! Haha

I don't know what other trunk lid would fit a Mustang. From what I have been reading from your threads, I would take what your " mechanic " says with a grain of salt.

Good luck!

Thanks a lot guys ill tell him about that site, im just happy someone could find one haha I appreciate it. And basically he said it wasn't for my car but I think he meant the lock, because the key just doesn't match. He is looking for a new tumbler....I told him as long as it opens, even if it uses a separate key, I don't care. And yeah no cruise wasn't the issue it was no airbag haha. Also the horn wont work, so I can't pass inspection in NJ. But at least I have a place to get a clock spring now haha thanks!

Yeah forgot about ebay. And no im an idiot I only checked for rust/engine mounts/engine stuff. How was I supposed to know there was no wiring in the rear light? I just figured the bulb was out. Couldn't drive it back to nj to have it checked by my mechanic, so I just bought it. I wish I hadn't....but only because I could've bought a better one. I still love my car! Thanks a lot for all the help, looks like ill be able to sort everything out after all. Im just wondering how much it'll cost to re-wire the left rear light assembly....*shudder*

I'd hate to see this car nickle and dime you to death.
If I were you, I would get it into a shop and have a compression / leak down test done, and have a mechanic check it out.

But good luck with it.

Man all the problems u just told us can be fixed with a warm sunday and a case of coors light. Your going to have to learn to fix shit yourself. Wing was most likely replaced so they never ran wiring. All u have to do it piggy back it off one of the break lights. Thats about 1 hour of work. If you want get the beer and on a warm summer day i will stop by and help you out. I stay in new brunswick on the weekends.

Haha thanks for the offer but I don't think my parents would be too cool with that grip. I would really like to take this car apart and do it myself, and learn as I go, but my parents don't want me to mess it up. Where do you all learn how to do this stuff? I can't do electrical wiring, vacuum leaks, hell I can't do anything but drive at this point. I have to learn how to do it myself, but my parents say I have no time and no skill and no way to learn, so off the the mechanic it is. Only my dad can do electrical wiring, because he works with computers, but he doesn't have the time to show me anything. He knows NOTHING about cars. I have no friends who like working on cars either, so that option is out too. The only one drives an IROC-Z and he is at college most of the time. I just don't understand how you all know so much about this stuff, were you all mechanics at one point or all you all self-taught geniuses?! Haha

you see thats the thing bro. this guy is willing to come over and help you, not do it for you. Thats a vary good way to learn. And when you learn how to do one thing it makes it easier to fix the next thing that breaks down. If your parents dont have time to teach you how to do these things then they shouldnt have a problem with some one else teaching you.

Haha yeah well I don't want to send the wrong message. I have a great life. The problem is I have so much to do and my parents know it, so they are very strict on how I spend my time. Now that I bought this car I need a job for college spending money. I also need to finish up my eagle scout rank. Then there's school. My weekends are now comprised of eagle scout work, and one night out. That's it haha. Maybe this summer I can find the time and the resources to get some instruction on my car. Im sure something else will break by then. But then im in college and the car stays home where I can't work on it anyway. I really wanna do an h/c/i swap but my mom says the car will be too fast. So im stuck, just trying to do everything I can in a very small amount of time. This summer is my only chance to learn all this, and I still have to work! Haha its driving me insane
