blargh

if you can wait two weeks I will be making a video for my youtube channel on what I did to do my motor swap

if not I can PM you a thread on another forum of when I did my head/cam swap, where I pulled the motor and cleaned everything up. I took a picture of mostly everything that time, so it would be easier for someone that has never done it.

after a few times its cake. this time its going so smooth for me. taking half the time to do shit as it did before.

best advice is to buy lots of sandwich baggies, and a sharpie, and bag every set of bolts, and mark what they are, and what they are to.

This is good advice right here. Along with doing the tape thing with a sharpie and it's a good idea to take pictures of everything before you pull it apart so you know what goes where if the tape gets ripped off, which does happen. That's how I do every engine in a car I'm unfamiliar with.

To make it easier you can just unplug the salt and pepper shakers and pull the top harness off with the engine and then swap the harness with the engine out of the car. That's what those connectors are there for.

So i should just unplug the salt and pepper shakers ? Any other ones that can be disconected to make life easier ? And what do you think about dropping the tranny or leaving it in. And if i do pull it should i pull the speedo cable or pull it with the speed sencor ? any other helpful hits would be great guys. thanks fogged

Tough for me to remember offhand how they are stock. I've re-wired my entire car so nothing is in it's original place anymore as far as wires go. I do remember the ground strap getting me once or twice that was on the back of the intake going to the firewall. I never checked for it and ripped it right off the firewall the one time. Other than that all the advice in this thread is solid. Leave the P/S pump in, leave the motor mounts on, pull the radiator before anything, an engine leveler makes the job easier because you can tilt the front of the engine up when you're trying to clear the radiator support with the bell or trans still attached.

I always leave the trans in. It's personal preference I think. Some think it's easier to pull the trans and some think it's easier to leave it in. I just unbolt the trans from the bellhousing and pull the engine with the bellhousing still on it. Like hatch said, you'll have to shimmy the clutch off the input shaft of the trans and it takes some force so don't be afraid to put some stank on it. But in the end, all you have to do is undo the clutch cable and the 4 bolts that hold the trans to the bellhousing.

you dont need to unplug the shakers, just bungie cord the harness outa the way. Leave the tranny in for pulling it, much easier to drop it when you put the motor in, then slap the tranny in after. Trust me. And the spedo cable has one bolt holding it in dude, pull it

What I'm saying is if you unplug the shakers, you don't need to worry about unplugging every sensor/injector and leaving the harness under the wiper. You just pull the whole harness with the engine. It's easier this way. It's not like you'll save an hour doing it that way, but it does go quicker.

The sensors for the engine itself will. The o2 sensors are in a different harness but that's it as far as I remember.

there is a ground from the injector harness the the back of the head, and then from the firewall to the same place.

other things to pull of the motor are the ground from the battery at the timing cover, the low oil sensor in the oil pan, the wiring to the strater, and the two brackets/ground straps that hold the O2 sensor harness that are on ether side of the front of the block. 1/2 drive, just pulled thouse off.

I will try to make the video as detailed as I can without being boring. some of the stuff is just common sense.

I will also PM you that thread I was talking about.
