budget engine build need opinions

so im working on a real tight college budget, ive had my mustang apart for a while... much longer then i wanted it to be, but will be getting it back together hopefully soon.

i have a 89 5 speed, im converting from efi to carb for many reasons, one being i just dont like the efi setup..

what im thinking of doing is
stock block honed.
gt40 heads,
long tube headers,
i dont know what cam yet any suggestions would be sweet,
edelbrock 750 carb,
edelbrock torker2 intake,
complete msd ignition,
re ring it and reseal engine,
king cobra clutch,
some type of control arms, slicks and nitrous

any suggestions would be appreciated
lol and when i say budget its def a tight budget

whys everyone so against going carb? ive had way to many problems with efi, i know theres ups and downs of both... i just like carb setups... one reason is in my opinion there more cost effective... everyone has there oppinion about carb vs efi lol seems like an ongoing debate

Beyond the obvious, the 750 is too much for what you are stating for parts. Got a old distributor with points laying around, would go nicely with the carb set up.

Cost effective yes....If you dont have any intake or fuel system, but im guessing it came EFI and you still have the efi set up. So at this point i really dont see it being that cost effective. The modds you mention you should be able to keep your stock injectors.

If you stayed EFI and you wanted to do it cheap.

Explorer gt40 intake $100
Ported by you $000
Your stock 19lb injectors $000
255lph fuel pump $100
used TB and spacer $125 -150

Deals can be had cheaper if you look around the prices were based off the top of my head or what ive seen them run for on ebay

If theres any thing ive left out guys feel free to add to it.

This is also based upon all your sencors being in good working order, if there not then obviously the price is going to jump up a bit

But if your dead set on staying carb then thats fine, im no carb expert but it seem like a 750 is a little big, but i could be wrong

Also doing a build on the cheap.
I noticed that you advise an upgraded fuel pump on your short list: is the stock fuel pump often insufficient, and will reach its flow limit before the stock 19# injectors reach theirs?

I'd just never thought about upgrading the fuel pump: worth the $100?

And-- what are the engineer's arguments for carburetted? EFI should be more efficient, and direct injection should take over next --though not so easily converted to, as awesome as it would be to have a DI 1990 car :-)

Stock pump is junk and barely adequate for the 19's when making more power. That's why some people have to boost the pressure when they are making more power. And you can get a walboro 255 for about a hundred bucks, so it's well worth the investment.

I said to go with the 255lph fuel pump... for the reason stated by faststang^^^ ..

Now a 255 pump may be over kill for the modds your doing but it gives you room to grow plus the difference in price between a 190 and a 255 is almost nothing so i figure if your going to drop your fuel tank you may as well only do it one time.
