Rear Main seal


can you change a rear main with the motor in the car. i looked inside me bell housing tonight and noticed a bunch of oil and don't want to install me new clutch till i get it fixed.

yes you can ... use a small pry bar and dont scratch the crank....and be sure to take some emory cloth or scotchbrite (preferably the latter) and polish the crank seal surface...be sure to caot the seal and crank with assy. lube before install (light coat is sufficiant)...GOOD LUCK!!!!

do you have to unbolt the motor mounts and drop the oil pan?

NO...you can drop the pan as is to give you some room if youd prefer, but then youll have the predicament of gasket scraping with little room to work with so id advise you leave it. you can also try carefully punching 2 or 3 different located holes in metal portion of seal, install small sheet metal screws to help you get some leverage with the seal for removal...
