blown head gasket.......new heads?

Hey guys heres my problem/ question. I have a 90 5.0 with a blown head gasket but isnt too bad of one, as long as i depressurize the radiator cap she runs fine, but am looking into buying completly new heads for it. The engine is completly stock besides a cold air intake. What is the best brand or just heads that will push out the most horsepower.

ported trick flow tw heads are much better than afr's. and if u can find em slightly used than they are cheaper too. and thats the name of the game.

what do you think about the gt-40 heads? Is that a waste of time and money cause if so im going straight to the ported trick flow tw, but its pretty spendy for my wallet.

since your engine is bone stock, i'd recommend gt 40s, they can be had for less then 1/2 the price of new alum heads, and since your that far into the motor, u might as well toss in an e cam , they can be had all day long for 100 bucks , if on the other hand you decide to get new heads, i'd get the afr 165s

is there any good combos, like any special exaust for the gt-40's? I am planning on going with some shorty headers, x pipes, high flow cats and straight pipe out. no mufflers.

Its not a matter of "better" in this case. Both of those heads are great. One might work better than the other with certain combos.. Neither is a bad choice.. I have had both Trick Flow and on my new motor I have the AFR 185's. For my combo the AFR's work better..

And where will you be driving this without gettin pulled over every 5mins?

I dont know about where you live but the tracks in my area for example during test and tune days its muffeled cars only... I think it will sound like shit any way with out mufflers. Why cats but no mufflers? If anything go no cats and run mufflers.. I dont get it..

no mufflers

for no mufflers, i had a friend tell me that he had a 89 with high flow cats and 3 inch pipes, he said it sounded mean, but thats all in oppinion i guess. cops arent a problem where i live so noise isnt going to be a problem. i like the quiet rumbling when the car idles then when i get on it i want that loud mussle sound

Well if you dont have to pass emissions tests then scrap the cats and just run like Flo-Master 2 chambers and it will sound awesome.. Even if you have to run cats with those mufflers it will sound like you described as long as they are high flow cats.. trust me bro you dont want no mufflers unless you are just a kid and think its cool to be annoying with the sound levels...

If you only want to take it apart once...go with the trickflow heads and upper/lower intake and get the stage 2 cam. if you really want to have fun...find a 351 and do the same.

i agree with your friend. I have had two stangs with straight pipes, cats only and they do sound throaty, way better than overrated flows. it's only loudwhen you stomp on it. plus it's wayyyy cheaper than 300 flows
