question about "big" intakes...

So I might be changin' a few things up. don't want to say to much, as the "deal" im getting might fall through.

But part of it is a edelbrock Victor 5.0 intake upper/lower. I think the lower has been ported a bit. I was told it was opened up, and it looked it, but no recipts or proof of said job.

I have a typhoon right now. I had been planning on keeping it, as I paid to have the lower ported out pretty good a while ago, and I ported the upper a bit myself. Just opening up the throttle body mounting area, and then cleaned out all the extra crap in the intake runners.

Peak power will be 5,700-6,300 ish, so nothing wild.... still a 302 also.

So is the edelbrock victor going to be over kill?

even with the porting of the typhoon, im sure the victor will have a big jump in power over 5,000 rpm. probably even sooner, like 4,500.

but as far as anything lower then that, am I going to lose a ton of power from 4,500 and under? I know on good set ups losing low down poewr is a joke. but with my off the shelf BS cam, I am a little worried, but that might be going away soon too.....

Just want your guys thoughts. I will probably go ahead with the deal ether way, but just got my mind buzzing about the change.

Rob

Ditch that typhoon and grab the fuckin victor. All day. 1slo5.0 used a victor 5.0 with almost the same setup as you. Except he had the stage 1 cam, not the stage 2.

its not that I don't think it will work. its more so that im just thinking about the new set up a lot, haha.

I know people run big intakes, or box intakes with great success, but the only builds I know of are normally with really good parts, like 93hatch's custom cam, ported heads, and a 347. which is in a whole other ball field compared to my set up.

my set up for those that done know is: rebuilt explorer motor 302, mildly ported track heat twisted wedge o-ringed heads, and for now.....off the shelf stage 2 cam, a typhoon intake, ported a bit, like stated before.

full bolt on's, electric fan, a/c and emissions delete, aluminum driveshaft, 4.10's blah blah blah.

Fuckin do it. Don't pussy foot with that typhoon anymore. Dump it, and grab that victor for sure. It'll be good with your setup.

like I said, as long all the other parts look good, and not wore out, im defiantly getting everything.

has two seasons of racing on the parts im buying, but the car ran a 10.8 as a best past, and consistent 11.2's at my elevation when dialed back a little to be consistent.

I hope to replicate the same.
(which would be mid/low 10's at sea level)

I'll revel the parts come Saturday, if I end up buying them.

one more thing if the ports on the lower are opened up dont buy it. Once an intakes been fucked with to someone elses application or more than likely just some idiot opening shit up, youll never get it to line up. Mine was bigger than my heads and my intake port on my heads is a 1262 gasket, the victor would never have lined up with my heads so i ditched it

haha, I hope so. the people around here are retarded.

i got one reliable guy I trust, but I think he only works on cylinder heads. I'll call him up first, because I trust his work, and he has a quick turn around.
