Ya how do you test the tfi? also what is that lol..............

My old fox did this. It was so annoying. I could get it to start after it was warmed and shut off, but I would have to crank it and hit the gas at just the right time for it to start. My guess is that it was the ignition system. If I missed that mark, I would have to wait like you for an hour or so till it cooled off, or I'd get some people to push me and crank the key and dump the clutch and it would start.

ya its annoying luckly its not my DD and am not too worried about it, just got to to tinker on so am just trying to get some ideas on what to look for!

I had the same thing happen and im pretty sure its yout TFI, i would get the checked out. I bought a re locator kit on mine so i wont have this problem again.

heres the trick


i have same problem as u,,, when its warm and wont start disconect the fuelpump relay under the driver seat and crank it over,, untill it fires,,, then once it fires it wont stay running,, plug relay back in and it should start

Does this mean the relay is bad?

Ii had the same problem.. Changed the tfi that wasn't it, changed the coil that wasn't it, changed the distributor pick up that wasn't it. Turns out it's the ignition relay..18$ part.

i had the same problem also and it turned out to be the tfi module so i always keep a spare band new one with me and with the tfi module tool also

man i have got crap for this fix, but i think it will help you, unhook one of the upper intake lines, under upper intake,and see if after it running, if it stays running with one of the vac line unhooked, iam not saying to run it that way just see if it helps, if it does help ill pm you with the fix.

hey guys; i'm new here as well but i have the exact same problem. its been this way for years for me. also the exact same symptoms as mightyjo3young. i have replaced the tfi a while ago and that didnt help my situation. i have not tried the relays yet. any other information you come upon let me know. thanks!
