carb pros and cons

im thinking of carbing my 5.0 to clean up the engine bay

need some pros and cons of doing this

mostly a good reason not to

i want things cheaper in the long run to put more money else where for performance

all i see is having to get a bigger maf, intake tube, egr, bigger injectors, bigger upper intake, hassle of vacuum lines and is it running right

vs

tossing a carb on it

need some help on this dont know wat im really gonna gain or lose from carbing

You're going to lose fuel economy and tunability if you switch to carb. If you plan on doing a complete build and you need a new intake, MAF, TB, injectors ect.. then the carb route will be cheaper, but if it's a street car, you'll quickly lose that money saved in money spent on fuel used. Another thing is that a carb is easier to tune, but it can't adjust for real world atmospheric conditions like temperature changes and changes in elevation. An EFI setup is constantly evaluating current conditions and monitoring the fuel mix to make adjustments to stay efficient, a carb won't.

I can't believe people would still rather have a CARB setup over EFI? are people just scared of tunning or something?

Just remember is not just as simple as bolting a carb on. You need a intake manifold, carb, some type of fuel system or regulator(EFI has 40+ psi, carb is around 7) A distributor with a steel gear for use with roller cams(MSD would be my suggestion) along with a control box to fire the carb type distributor, throttle cable, etc. So its not as simple as it sounds. IMO you would be better off staying EFI. Lots & lots of used Mustang EFI stuff for sale on the internet!!

Good luck either way!
