What are the rims worth? GT-40 parts are dirt cheap. You should be able to find a used set for $200 and an intake for $150 or less for both. You can find an entire explorer engine for around $350-$400 with GT-40 stuff on it and sell the shortblock to recoup some money and end up paying even less. Decent rims with good tires aren't a good trade at all.

you could probably find some gt40 heads for around 200-300, depending on how hard you search. I bought my gt40p heads ported, milled, and fresh springs for 300. So if you can sell those wheels for 600 or so you could buy some heads and supporting mods like a cam. IMO

Check craigslist. Idk if you can post in the classified section yet on the form.

you need to make sure you get headers that fit P heads. Not sure wwhich ones fit, but I'm sure someone will chime in and tell you. Because of the spark plug angle you run into some clearence issues

The P heads will make more power. The plugs are centered more in the chamber for a more efficient burn. I believe the chambers are shaped differently too. That's why they're a pain with headers sometimes because they're not in the normal plug locations. I've never run them so I couldn't tell you first hand, but I've seen a lot of guys say you just need 90* boots and they work with most headers.. Either way, you've got the right idea about saving up for good heads, I'd stick with that plan.
