how far to go for a street car??
I am wondering if I should stop where Im at other than maybe gears for my stang, given that I only want it for a street car, something fun that I can tear up the streets with. I don't really care about the track.
The question is do I stay with the Vortec and exhaust, maybe swapping gears and call it good....or go ahead and do head/cams/intake also. I dont know if that would make it to crazy to drive on the street all the time, or if it would be too much for the stock block and put me at risk of ruining it. What suggestions/experience does anyone have? (I have Vortec S-trim V3 with power pipe, BBK shorty headers, x-pipe, flowmasters, lowered and adjustable shocks, fuel pump, injectors, new distributor/wires.)

pink flames should look good.
seriously, why do you want us to build YOUR car for you. what do YOU want out of the car? I have seen car's with 600+ horsepower cruising the streets, and being driven all the time. "street" car is so damn vague , you can build an unlimited amount of motor combinations, and call them "street" set ups.

well I dont want YOU to build it. I have already done to this point without YOU. I know that some people on here have more experience and might have some helpful hints. Sure I could prob build a 1000hp car and drive it around the street, but is it fun?? does it do nothing but burn the tires off and hard as shit to drive and have fun other than full throttle??
I just dont know a ton about all the options that I could do and how good or bad they are. By street car, I mean driving around on the street and not looking for what my 1/4 mile times are necessarily...dont plan on taking it to the track.

i think gears, upper and lower intake, with a nice cam might be what your looking for. How do u like the s-trim v3?

Do you like the speed of the car right now? If you think it isn't I would put a set of gears in it then if you still think it isn't powerful enough for you for a street car I would do an upper and lower intake. If that still isn't enough for you I would go ahead and do the heads and a custom ground cam. Using a custom ground cam with give you the opportunity to tell the cam grinder what exactly your looking to get out of the cam so they can make one that is perfect for what you want.

my buddies mild head/cam/intake and a procharger 302 just made 448rwhp at 4400rpm and leaned out after that because of a MAF issue.
My bet is he is going to hit 500rwhp. something like that to me, that can be driven everyday, is a FUN street car. In my eyes, the car should need little to no major tear downs and you should feel confident in driving it to work everyday if you wanted too.

So far I like my S-trim. I put it on last fall and haven't had a ton of time really to enjoy it. Im getting it dyno tuned coming up, had to wait cause I put a new clutch in it and wanted to break it in. I was just thinking whether I should just do h/c/i now before I tune it, or if that would be too much, or maybe just gears, or hell do it all. I just know I don't want to do things twice, but also wanting to make sure I dont do too much and then wish I didn't or go backwards. I will make a decision one of these days!! Ill get some pics posted of my baby coming up soon too. Gotta get wheels/tires too.

do gears at least 355's since you have a power adder. when i got my fox it had 2;73's. fith gear was useless unless doing 65 plus mph,and you had to shift every gear even from a rolling stop. 3;73's made my stock car driveing exp.. so much better!fith gear is usable now, and i can start in 2nd from a roll if i want to without burning 5k miles off the clutch! gears, gears, gears!!!!!

yes gears are very great for blower cars like a big gear like a 3.90 and up cuz u want to spin the blower harder to make more power and push more air and keep boost up between shifts i think that how u would put it i think i could be wrong so if sum could chime in and let no that be kool i had a 4.10 in my car with a v-1 strim and it was fun now i have a 3.27 with turbo should be more fun at the track turbos like a load like that

i eventually plan to have a turbo 408w built to go in my car which will still be street driven almost regularly. and im expecting 800-850 rwhp out of that once its done.
but its all about how fast you want to go really. if your happy with the car now then leave it or do gears. but if youd like to go faster get some 3.73s and a good H/C/I set-up. |
